It represents seven Volkswagen Group brands — Audi, Volkswagen, Volkswagen Nutzfahrzeuge, Porsche, SEAT, CUPRA and ŠKODA — and offers new and used car sales, service and parts from a single source. The company was founded in 1997 with the takeover of Autohaus Ballach in Regen, is led by the Hirtreiter owner family in its second generation, and employs around 1,000 people. It has also established the subsidiary brands AVP E-Mobility, AVP CAMPINGLAND and the e-motion e-Bike Welt in Passau.

AVP Automobilgruppe was founded in 1997 with the takeover of Autohaus Ballach in Regen, initially as an Audi Service and Volkswagen operation, with ŠKODA Service added from 2002. In 1998 the company took over Autohaus Ballach in Deggendorf (Audi, VW and Porsche), and in 1999 the shares of Franz Xaver Hirtreiter sen. were transferred to his children Franz (51%), Alexandra (24.5%) and Leonie (24.5%). In 2001 it took over Autohaus Hofbauer in Passau, and it later took over Autohaus Hofmann in Zwiesel (Audi Service and Volkswagen contract, with ŠKODA Service from 2002 and Suzuki Service from 2008). The company has grown over more than twenty years in partnership with selected Volkswagen Group car brands, and its owner family Hirtreiter leads AVP AUTOLAND in the second generation. It has established the subsidiary brands AVP E-Mobility, AVP CAMPINGLAND and the e-motion e-Bike Welt in Passau.
