Overview

Aviation Beauport is a business aviation company based in Jersey in the Channel Islands. Its activities have included private and corporate aircraft charter, aircraft management, hangarage, ground handling and fixed-base operator services. The company has also operated aircraft under an Air Operators Certificate and has been described as the only executive-jet charter company in the Channel Islands holding an AOC, as well as Jersey’s only fixed-base operator. The business was established in 1969 by Tom Clarke and Patrick Harrison. Its first aircraft was a six-seat, twin-engine Piper Aztec D. The name Aviation Beauport was associated with Clarke’s residence opposite Beauport Nursing Home in Jersey. After a change of hands in 1972, the company experienced several ownership changes before being reorganized in the mid-1980s. A major development came in 1985, when Greg Graham, then managing director of Air Atlantique’s air-taxi division, worked with Jersey businessman Mike Bell to acquire both Air Atlantique’s air-taxi operation and Aviation Beauport. Graham became managing director of the restructured Aviation Beauport. Under the new organization, the company broadened beyond air-taxi work into freight, aircraft handling and the management of private and corporate aircraft. Aviation Beauport initially operated from Jersey Airport’s terminal building. In 1995 it moved into a purpose-built fixed-base operator facility. The premises were subsequently extended and upgraded, including the addition of rental offices known as Heron House and a dedicated executive passenger lounge. The facilities and range of services helped the company gain recognition as one of Europe’s leading FBO operations; the passenger-lounge design was highly commended by the Association of Jersey Architects and Designers. In 2002, the company decided to focus its operations on the business-jet market. For a number of years it owned and operated Cessna Citation Excel aircraft. In 2009, it expanded its capabilities by acquiring a Dassault Falcon 2000LX and obtaining a worldwide Air Operators Certificate. A Cessna Citation Mustang was later added in response to the requirements of the Jersey market. Fleet information published for July 2019 listed two Citation Mustangs, one Citation XLS and two Citation XLS+ aircraft under the company’s management and operation. Gama Aviation announced a conditional acquisition of Aviation Beauport in January 2016. The transaction received approval from the Channel Islands Competition and Regulatory Authorities, then known as CICRA, on 16 February 2016. Aviation Beauport subsequently operated within the Gama Aviation group as Gama Aviation (Beauport) Limited. The business therefore combines a long-standing Jersey aviation identity with the resources and operating structure of an international business aviation services group.

History

Aviation Beauport was founded in Jersey in 1969 by Tom Clarke and Patrick Harrison. The company began with a twin-engine, six-seat Piper Aztec D and initially operated as a local aviation business. Its name came from the location of Clarke’s home opposite Beauport Nursing Home in Jersey. The company changed ownership in 1972 and went through further ownership changes during the following years. In 1985, Greg Graham became involved after Air Atlantique decided to sell its air-taxi division. Graham approached Jersey businessman Mike Bell with a proposal to acquire both the Air Atlantique operation and Aviation Beauport. Following the purchases, Graham was appointed managing director of a reorganized Aviation Beauport. The company expanded its activities to include freight, airport handling and the management of private and corporate aircraft. Aviation Beauport originally operated from the terminal building at Jersey Airport. In 1995 it moved to a purpose-built FBO facility. The site was later expanded and modernized, adding rental offices under the Heron House name and an executive passenger lounge. The quality and breadth of the facility’s services contributed to the company’s recognition as one of Europe’s leading fixed-base operators. The lounge design was highly commended by the Association of Jersey Architects and Designers. The company changed its strategic emphasis in 2002 by concentrating on the business-jet market. It operated Cessna Citation Excel aircraft for several years. In 2009, Aviation Beauport acquired a Dassault Falcon 2000LX and obtained a worldwide Air Operators Certificate, extending its ability to conduct international executive aviation operations. A Cessna Citation Mustang was subsequently added to address the needs of the Jersey market. Gama Aviation announced a conditional acquisition of Aviation Beauport in January 2016. The transaction was approved by the Channel Islands Competition and Regulatory Authorities on 16 February 2016. After the acquisition, the business operated within Gama Aviation as Gama Aviation (Beauport) Limited. Published fleet information from July 2019 identified two Cessna Citation Mustangs, one Citation XLS and two Citation XLS+ aircraft as managed and operated by the business. The company’s role within the Gama Aviation group has retained its Jersey aviation-services base while connecting its activities with a wider international business aviation platform.
