Overview

AVI Alpenländische Veredelungs- Industrie Gesellschaft m.b.H. is an Austrian manufacturer of concrete reinforcement products. Founded in 1948, the company is headquartered in Raaba near Graz and describes itself as an Austrian producer of concrete reinforcement products that has continuously developed innovative products since its founding. Its portfolio spans two main areas: classic reinforcement products such as spacers for the trade and bending shops, and technically demanding products for concrete-processing operations and construction companies. AVI also provides customised solutions, logistics and technical consulting. The company's product range includes lattice girders, special girders, impact sound insulation boards, the Thermokorb® thermal insulation elements (including SL-TK and TKQ), spacers and the QE shear force element, which is marketed as offering up to 70% time savings compared with stirrup reinforcement. AVI operates specialist portals for its customers and organises the AVI-Statikertreffen, a recurring industry event held in Vienna, Salzburg, Graz and Innsbruck. AVI is part of a corporate group. According to its history page, Maschinen und Stahl Holding GmbH was founded with AVI, EVG and Marienhütte as its 100% subsidiaries. The group has expanded through acquisitions and participations, including EVG, Marienhütte, H+S Zauntechnik, Stahlform Baustahlbearbeitung, Filzmoser and BSTG Linz. AVI celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2023 and continues to expand its product portfolio, most recently with PAKON impact sound systems and shear force dowels in 2025.

History

AVI was founded in 1948 as an Austrian company producing concrete reinforcement products. In 1949, it introduced its first stock mat programme. In 1963, the company EVG was founded and the first mesh welding plant was constructed. A new area reinforcement made of bi-steel (UNIDIM reinforcement strips) was introduced in 1973. In 1985, production was relocated to Raaba near Graz. In 1987, the ÖMAT loop mat was invented and launched. In 1990, the company took over the steel and rolling mill Marienhütte. In 1993, a new headquarters was built in Raaba. In 1994, H+S Zauntechnik was founded. In 1998, AVI acquired a strategic participation in Stahlform Baustahlbearbeitung. In 2002, EVG acquired a strategic participation in Filzmoser. In 2013, AVI took over BSTG Linz and the reinforcing mesh production of voestalpine Austria Draht. In 2014, AVI acquired a strategic participation in BSTG and exited the mat business. In 2016, Filzmoser was integrated into EVG and Stahlform was taken over by the group. In 2020, the AVI portfolio was expanded with punching shear reinforcement. In 2021, Maschinen und Stahl Holding GmbH was founded, with AVI, EVG and Marienhütte as its 100% subsidiaries. In 2022, the product portfolio was expanded with the heavy-duty Thermokorb SL-TK and the shear lattice girder S-GT. In 2023, the portfolio was expanded with the shear force element and punching shear reinforcement, and AVI celebrated its 75th anniversary.
