Overview
A.V.G. Ascherslebener Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH is a German railway company based in Egeln, Saxony-Anhalt. It operates both as a railway undertaking (Eisenbahnverkehrsunternehmen) and as a railway infrastructure undertaking (Eisenbahninfrastrukturunternehmen). The company was founded on 1 August 2001 as a sole proprietorship named A.V.G. Mirko Mokry e. K. by Mirko Mokry, a trained train driver and then member of the Saxony-Anhalt state parliament. Initially, Mokry offered only his own labour to other railway companies, but in 2004 he hired four additional train drivers and opened a small office in Aschersleben. On 28 September 2005, the Ministry of Transport of Saxony-Anhalt granted the company a licence as a railway undertaking. In 2007, the company was split: the original sole proprietorship was renamed A.V.G. Bildung Mirko Mokry e. K. and took over training and further education for its own and other railway companies, while the railway operating business was spun off into the newly founded A.V.G Ascherslebener Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH, with Mokry as managing director and sole shareholder. The training business was deleted from the commercial register in June 2009. Since 2019, Axel Gassmann has been managing director of A.V.G. Ascherslebener Verkehrsgesellschaft, succeeding Mokry. At the end of 2020, Mokry transferred all shares to Power Rail GmbH, based in Hohendodeleben, whose managing director and sole shareholder is Gassmann. On 16 March 2023, insolvency proceedings were applied for; business operations continue. The company's services include nationwide rail freight transport, nationwide construction-site logistics, transfer of rail vehicles, and rental of sidings for vehicle storage (several thousand metres of sidings, short- and long-term rental possible, for freight/passenger cars and traction vehicles). It also rents diesel locomotives of classes 217 (without heating boiler, without ZEV) and 218 (with ZEV), with double traction operation possible. Since 1 May 2007, as a railway infrastructure undertaking, it has operated the 32.6-kilometre single-track line between Staßfurt and Egeln and serves the soda works in Staßfurt. Investments in the line and a bridge allowed the axle load to be increased from 18 to 21 tonnes. The vehicle fleet has grown over the years. In 2005, the first own locomotive of class V 23 (No. 102 254-0) was commissioned, used in construction and shunting. In March 2006, a class 203 locomotive (No. 203 004-7) followed, initially used on construction sites but soon also for freight trains. A third locomotive, class 232 (No. W 232.07), acquired in December 2006, proved prone to failure and is no longer in service. One locomotive each of classes 346 and 202 were rented. After the VT2E was retired by AKN, AVG, together with the association Nebenbahn Staßfurt - Egeln e. V., transferred VT2.38 to Egeln after the railcar was acquired by the association; it first entered service in its new home in April 2016. Meanwhile, AVG itself owns two further VT2E railcars, operated together with the association. In 2018, two V160 diesel locomotives were acquired: 225 004 from DB (designated 215 004) and 217 002 from BTE, and already in 2017 the V90 locomotive 295 095 was taken over from RP.
