Aventis Foundation

The Aventis Foundation is an independent, legally capable foundation under German civil law (rechtsfähige Stiftung bürgerlichen Rechts) founded in 1996 and based in Frankfurt am Main. It was endowed by Hoechst AG with foundation capital of 100 million Deutsche Mark, and it finances its funding amounts and administrative costs entirely from the returns on that capital. A small team handles operations, while an honorary board (Kuratorium) sets the main guidelines, advises and oversees the foundation. It pursues charitable purposes and funds primarily nationwide in Germany, with a focus on the Frankfurt/Rhein-Main region, chiefly in the areas of culture and science. As a funding foundation, it supports individual projects and institutions with grants, and its funding lines include "Klang" and "Digitale Experimente" as well as the crowdfunding platform "kulturMut"; in science it concentrates its funding on the "Life Sciences Bridge Award", awarded annually to early-career scientists.
