History
Aut Records was founded in 2010 by saxophonist and clarinettist Davide Lorenzon, together with Bob Meanza, who serves as artistic director. The label emerged from a desire to document and promote music that resists easy categorisation, operating as a non-profit cooperative. Based in Berlin, Germany, but with strong Italian roots, Aut Records has released over 26 albums by artists from diverse musical backgrounds, including free improvisation, jazz, electronic music, rock, and experimental composition. The catalogue features notable artists such as cellist Tristan Honsinger with the Hanam Quintet, sopranist Luciano Caruso, pianists Emanuele Maniscalco and Nicola Guazzaloca, violist Szilard Mezei, and Davide Lorenzon with his trio Kongrosian. Bob Meanza's project Toxydoll and his duo with sitarist Filipe Dias De are also part of the roster. Since 2014, the label has organised the annual Aut Fest in Berlin, presenting performances by artists who have released on Aut Records. The label places a special emphasis on album cover illustrations, working with graphic artists including Sandro Crisafi, Roberto Laforgia, Emanuele Kabu, Pietro Caponnetti, Martina Gunkel, Nicola Guazzaloca, and Massimo Ugolini. In 2025, Aut Records celebrated its fifteenth anniversary with a feature titled 'Languages of the Unheard', which included an interview by Libero Farnè published on All About Jazz.
