Overview

Australian Radio Towers, trading as ART Group, is an Australian company that designs, manufactures, installs and maintains turnkey infrastructure solutions for wind resource assessment as well as the broader renewables, resources and communications industries. Established in 1973 in South Australia as a small family business, the company has grown over more than five decades into what it describes as a leading national vertical infrastructure provider across the energy and communications sectors. Its headquarters and manufacturing base are now in Murwillumbah, New South Wales, and it serves clients in Australia and internationally. ART's product and service range centres on wind resource measurement and vertical infrastructure. It supplies IEC-compliant met masts and wind systems, ground-based WindCube® lidar, sodar systems and solar monitoring equipment, alongside digital infrastructure, skid-mounted communications power, stand-alone solar power trailers, Helipods for remote power of lidar units, and environmental monitoring solutions. The company emphasises Australian-made manufacturing, ruggedisation for harsh climates, and the ability to deliver every stage of a client's project in-house, from rapid deployment to custom builds. In recent years ART has expanded into environmental monitoring for wind farms, including a turnkey bat acoustic monitoring system developed with Wildlife Acoustics and the Spoor environmental monitoring service, which combines AI-powered analysis with high-resolution cameras for onshore and offshore wind farms. It also offers the Modular Communications Shelter+ (MCS+) range, including the MCS9+ and MCS18+ shelters, for telecommunications, mining and renewables applications. ART has grown partly through acquisition, notably acquiring Flight Brothers in 2021, one of Australia's oldest suppliers of communication towers, guyed masts and on-rail hardware, which expanded ART Group's tower production presence to South Australia. The company describes itself as a Symphony Company and positions itself on safety, quality, service and innovation as a trusted industry partner.

History

Australian Radio Towers was established in 1973 in South Australia as a small but dedicated family business. During the 1970s and 1980s the company developed a strong client base throughout South Australia, built on the team's passion, commitment to innovation, strong company culture and a human-centred approach. In 1987 its operating base moved to the Northern Territory to better service vital regional and remote projects and to use innovation to deliver products and services in some of the most challenging environments. In 2010 new manufacturing facilities opened in Murwillumbah, New South Wales, adding new depth to the company's service delivery and allowing it to deliver every stage of clients' projects in-house with fully Australian-made products. In 2017 Matt Bechly joined the business; he holds a PhD in wind energy and is described as a leading expert in Australia for turn-key wind system monitoring, encompassing design, engineering, installation and maintenance. He had previously spearheaded key divisions at DNV Renewables Advisory for the Pacific region, overseeing all wind and solar met mast data services and power performance measurements across Australasia. In 2021 ART acquired Flight Brothers, one of Australia's oldest and most reputed suppliers of communication towers, guyed masts and on-rail hardware. This strategic acquisition expanded ART Group's tower production presence to South Australia, allowing it to better serve national clients through additional production capacity and a broader product range to meet significant market demand for vertical infrastructure. By the 2020s ART described itself as having more than 50 years of experience and as one of the industry leaders in renewables and communication solutions, delivering products and services across the renewable energy, communications and defence sectors. The company has continued to broaden its offering, adding environmental monitoring capabilities such as a turnkey bat acoustic monitoring system developed with Wildlife Acoustics and the Spoor environmental monitoring service for onshore and offshore wind farms, as well as the Modular Communications Shelter+ (MCS+) range of Australian-made shelters. ART is based in Murwillumbah, New South Wales, and works with clients in Australia and internationally; it describes itself as a Symphony Company.
