Aurora Innovation, Inc., commonly known as Aurora, is a Pittsburgh-based autonomous-vehicle technology company. History
Aurora Innovation was established in 2017 in the United States by Chris Urmson, Sterling Anderson, and Drew Bagnell. The founders came from major autonomous-driving programs at Google, Tesla, and Uber. Urmson had previously worked on Carnegie Mellon's autonomous-vehicle research and on Google's self-driving effort, Anderson had led Tesla Autopilot, and Bagnell had held senior autonomy and perception responsibilities at Uber. Their combined background shaped Aurora as an independent platform company intended to supply self-driving technology to vehicle manufacturers, mobility providers, and freight operators.
