History

AunaCable emerged in 2002 from the consolidation of several Spanish regional cable operators. The businesses associated with its formation included Madritel in Madrid, Catalan operator Menta, Andalusian Supercable, Aragón de Cable in Aragon, and Canarias Telecom in the Canary Islands. Their combination created a broader cable-service identity capable of presenting television, telephone, and Internet products under an Auna-related name while continuing to operate through established regional networks. The brand's structure remained geographically differentiated. Rather than immediately eliminate the names customers already knew, the regional businesses continued to use local identifiers such as AunaCable Madritel in Madrid and AunaCable Menta in Catalonia. This approach combined a common umbrella identity with market-specific branding and reflected the fragmented development of cable telecommunications in Spain. AunaCable was subsequently absorbed by Retevisión when Retevisión established the Auna operator. As a result, AunaCable became part of a larger telecommunications organization instead of continuing as an independent national cable brand. Its core proposition remained the delivery of bundled cable television, fixed-line telephone service, and Internet access over the regional networks inherited from its predecessor operators. In 2005, Auna was bought and absorbed by ONO. The transaction led to the unification of Auna's services and customers under the ONO brand, bringing the distinct AunaCable identity to an end. The later acquisition of ONO by Vodafone in 2014 extended the corporate succession of the underlying cable assets. Vodafone gained the ability to provide cable services in areas where fiber-optic coverage was unavailable. AunaCable is therefore best understood as a transitional Spanish cable brand created during a period of regional consolidation and later subsumed into larger operator brands.
