Overview
Atque — full title Atque. Materiali tra filosofia e psicoterapia — is an Italian semiannual journal dedicated to the dialogue between philosophy and psychotherapy, published by the independent publishing house Moretti & Vitali. It was founded in Florence in 1990 and has since served as a meeting point for scholars working across psychology, psychiatry, psychoanalysis, phenomenology, aesthetics, literature and the human sciences. The journal takes its name from the Latin conjunction atque, chosen for its capacity to link and at the same time to contrast — a logical figure that the editors see as emblematic of the encounter between different forms of knowledge. The journal is edited by a stable group of Italian academics and clinicians. Over the decades the editorial board has included figures such as Remo Bodei, Paolo Francesco Pieri, Maurizio Ferrara, Alfonso Maurizio Iacono, Fabrizio Desideri, Luciano Mecacci, Maria Ilena Marozza, Paola Cavalieri, Anna Gianni, Mauro La Forgia and Roberto Manciocchi. The board has also promoted internal seminars and study days in various Italian cities, extending the journal's activity beyond the printed page. Atque publishes essays on psychiatry and schizophrenia, phenomenology, psychoanalysis and analytical psychology, as well as contributions from literature, art and aesthetics, philosophy of mind, linguistics, semiology, neuroscience, mathematics, physics, computer science, architecture and classical studies. Its declared aim is to stimulate research in the intermediate space that psychotherapeutic and philosophical practice open up and simultaneously leave to be thought. The journal is aimed at psychotherapists, philosophers and all readers who wish to reflect critically on their own formalized knowledge and on the research traditions to which they belong. In 2006 the journal changed its graphic design, and the same year saw a partial renewal of the editorial board. Atque remains an active publication within the Moretti & Vitali catalogue, distributed through the publisher's channels and available to libraries and individual subscribers.
History
Atque. Materiali tra filosofia e psicoterapia was founded in Florence in 1990, with Moretti & Vitali as its publisher. The journal was created to foster dialogue between philosophical reflection and psychotherapeutic practice, taking as its emblem the Latin conjunction atque, whose dual coordinating and adversative force was seen as a model for holding together different, even opposing, forms of knowledge. The original editorial board included Paolo Francesco Pieri, Remo Bodei, Maurizio Ferrara, Alfonso Maurizio Iacono, Gianfranco Trippi and Sergio Vitale, all of whom remained until 1994. From 1998 the board was joined by Fabrizio Desideri, Luciano Mecacci and Maria Ilena Marozza, the latter having collaborated since the journal's second issue. In 2006 the journal changed its graphic design and underwent a partial turnover of its editorial board: Alessandro Barchiesi, Mariano Bianca, Mauro Ceruti, Mario Lavagetto, Luigi Lentini and Giuseppe Maffei left, while Alessandro Pagnini and Silvano Tagliagambe, who had already been contributing since 1993, joined. In 2011 Paola Cavalieri, Anna Gianni, Mauro La Forgia, Roberto Manciocchi and Maria Ilena Marozza also joined the editorial team. Over the years the editorial group has promoted internal seminars and a series of study days in various Italian cities, building on the journal's themes. The journal has consistently published essays spanning psychology, psychiatry, psychotherapy, philosophy, art and aesthetics, literature, neurology, neurophysiology, biology and neuroscience, mathematics, physics and computer science, architecture and classical studies. It remains an active semiannual publication within the Moretti & Vitali catalogue.
