History
ASW Distillery presents its origin story as beginning in a number of places: Ireland, France, and England. In Ireland in the 1700s, an Irish native the company calls Searlas Tompson first tasted uisge beatha, a batch smuggled by moonlight to evade King George I's whiskey tax collectors; as rents climbed on the Isle of Eire, Searlas and his family sought out the fertile expanses of Pennsylvania, a region that soon became famous for its rye whiskey. In France in the early 1700s, a local the company calls Jacques Chastain had his first sip of brandy at the age of eleven, fresh from the alembic still; when he and his family later sailed for the French Huguenot coast of South Carolina, Jacques brought his taste for brandy with him. The final wrinkle in the story finds us on the shores of England in the 1600s, where a French Huguenot the company calls Justin Wingo landed in hopes of escaping religious persecution. The company states it is the most awarded craft distillery since 2018 at the U.S.' most prestigious spirits competition, and operates three Atlanta tasting rooms in Buckhead, The Battery Atlanta, and the West End.
