History
Associazione Ambiente e Lavoro was founded by Rino Pavanello as a non-profit association dedicated to environmental protection and occupational health and safety. Its formal recognition as an 'Association of Environmental Protection of National Interest' came through a decree of the Italian Ministry of the Environment dated 1 March 1988, published in the Gazzetta Ufficiale on 19 May 1988. This status placed it within the framework of Italian environmental protection associations recognised by the state. From its early years the association combined advocacy with technical publishing. In 1988 it launched 'Dossier Ambiente', a quarterly monographic series that remains one of its flagship publications. It also began producing the 'Codice della Salute e Sicurezza sul Lavoro', a compilation of health and safety at work legislation that has reached 15 printed editions with online updates. In 2004 it launched the online monthly technical-legal journal 'Rivista Ambiente e Lavoro', which continues to publish articles on regulatory, scientific and practical aspects of prevention. Over the decades the association built a role as a specialist interlocutor for prevention professionals. It is certified ISO 9001:2015 for training, is registered in the national research register, and is listed in the register of accredited operators for 'Formazione di eccellenza'. It is audited by parliamentary commissions on the approval of new laws and participates in the National Environment Council, the Italian Inter-associative Prevention Consulta (CIIP) and the Third Sector Forum. It has received numerous recognitions from the President of the Republic, the EU and Italian regions. Its information services include the website www.amblav.it and the weekly newsletter 'Ambl@vNews', offering free updates on workplace safety and environmental protection. The association has organised more than 1,000 events including conferences and training courses. In recent years it has been active on issues such as chemical risk in agriculture, biomechanical overload, tobacco control, nuclear energy regulation, plastic recycling and occupational accident data, and it is a member organisation of the Tobacco Endgame movement.
