Overview

The Association of Southeast and East Asian Catholic Colleges and Universities (ASEACCU) is a regional association of Catholic higher education institutions across East and Southeast Asia. Formed in 1991, it has grown to include Catholic colleges and universities throughout the region. The association functions as a forum for members to engage in open dialogue, share resources, and reflect on their identities as Catholic institutions. As an affiliated association of the International Federation of Catholic Universities (IFCU), ASEACCU represents East and Southeast Asian Catholic higher education to the rest of the Catholic world and beyond. ASEACCU's purpose is to encourage and promote the shared mission of Catholic higher education as service to society through faith, scholarship, and ethical leadership. It aims to help institutions build meaningful connections with one another, expand educational opportunities, and cultivate healthy relationships among communities, between nations, and with the planet. The association welcomes Catholic colleges and universities in its regions to join as members, and other educational institutions, organizations, and governments are welcome to partner with it regardless of religious affiliation. Following the guidelines of the Apostolic Constitution on Higher Education, Ex Corde Ecclesiae, ASEACCU's objectives include serving as a forum for member institutions, reflecting on how they put into practice the ideals of a Catholic university, ascertaining whether they have correctly defined and continuously maintained their identity as Catholic schools, and dialoguing freely at the highest levels to share resources among themselves and with other educational institutions and governments internationally and in their own countries in their common quest for academic excellence. The association organizes meetings, symposia, workshops, and seminars on topics related to its mission, facilitates the exchange of faculty, administrators, and students between member institutions, and collects, exchanges, and disseminates information through bi-annual newsletters and other publications. Its annual conference and exchange opportunities are key activities. Membership is open to legally recognized degree-granting Catholic universities, with full membership granted to qualifying institutions. As of recent data, ASEACCU has 91 member universities in 11 countries, spanning Australia, Cambodia, South Korea, the Philippines, Japan, Indonesia, Macao, Taiwan, Timor-Leste, Thailand, and Vietnam.
