Overview
The Association of Hungarian Historical Families (Hungarian: Magyar Történelmi Családok Egyesülete, MTCSE) is a Hungarian voluntary association established in 1995. Its primary purpose is to provide material and moral mutual aid to its members. Membership is reserved for individuals recognized as descendants of the Hungarian nobility according to criteria set out in its statutes and implemented by a proofs commission. The association grew out of a youth club founded in 1994 by Baron János Gudenus, Baron Ferenc Apor, and Father Ottmár Faddy, called the Youth Club of Historical Families of the Holy Crown, which aimed to unite noble Hungarian youth across the country. János Nyáry presided over the association for twenty years until 2014, when the general assembly elected a new presidency. Subsequent presidencies were elected in 2017 and later, with Count Pál Zichy currently serving as president. The association is a member of the Commission for Information and Liaison of European Noble Associations, alongside organizations such as the Association for Mutual Aid of the French Nobility. As of 2020, it had approximately 150 members. It publishes newsletters and yearbooks, including Status et Ordines (1995–2004) and Nobilitas yearbooks (2005–2008).
History
The Association of Hungarian Historical Families (Magyar Történelmi Családok Egyesülete, MTCSE) was established in 1995, building on the foundations of a youth club created in 1994. That predecessor, the Youth Club of Historical Families of the Holy Crown (Történelmi Családok Szent Korona Ifjúsági Klubja), was founded by Baron János Gudenus, Baron Ferenc Apor, and Father Ottmár Faddy with the aim of uniting noble Hungarian youth across the country. The club was favorably received, leading to the creation of the association a year later. János Nyáry served as president for twenty years, until 2014, when the general assembly elected a new presidency composed of Lóránt Riedel, György Csornay, Zsolt Némethy, and Albert Sigmond. In 2017, a new presidency was elected with Baron Rudolf Lorand Riedel, Géza Arday, Miklós Kubínyi, Imre Páll, and Baron Tamás Tunkel. A few months later, another presidency was designated with Baron Loránd Rudolf Riedel as president, along with Baron Tamás Bánffy, Count Teleki Sándor, Baron Tamás Tunkel, and Count Pál Zichy. Currently, the president is Count Pál Zichy. The association is a member of the Commission for Information and Liaison of European Noble Associations, alongside organizations such as the Association for Mutual Aid of the French Nobility. As of 2020, it had approximately 150 members. It has published a newsletter, Status et Ordines (38 issues between 1995 and 2004), and Nobilitas yearbooks for 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008 (ISSN 1788-1552).
