Overview

The Association des Hommes du Luxembourg (AHL) is a Luxembourgish non-profit association dedicated to defending the specific interests of men. It was created on 18 December 2005, succeeding the Association luxembourgeoise d'Aide aux Hommes Divorcés ou en Instance de Divorce (Alahidd). In February 2006 the organisation changed its name to Association des Hommes du Luxembourg. While it continues to address divorce-related issues, it has broadened its scope to include school problems of young people, suicides in Luxembourg, sexual harassment, prostitution, domestic violence, workplace safety, insurance questions, and more generally any area where men, fathers or boys are victims of prejudice or discrimination. On divorce matters, the AHL closely follows issues related to child custody, parental authority, fathers' rights to visitation and accommodation, alimony, and the financial and tax situation of separated or divorced men. The AHL describes itself as a fully non-discriminatory organisation that accepts in principle all persons who can identify with its objectives — men, women and young people. Many women are members and some even sit on the board of directors, which is the 'comité' of the non-profit. It also presents itself as a multicultural organisation. Since 13 March 2008, the AHL has had a cooperation agreement with the political party Alternativ Demokratesch Reformpartei (ADR), allowing AHL candidates to run on ADR lists, as happened on 7 June 2009 in the Chamber elections. The association has a significant media presence, having given interviews to RTL and appeared in various press articles and political debates. As of October 2025, the AHL is registered in the trade register as 'en procédure de dissolution administrative sans liquidation'.

History

The Association des Hommes du Luxembourg (AHL) was founded on 18 December 2005 in Luxembourg under the name Association luxembourgeoise d'aide aux hommes en instance de divorce et divorcés (Alahidd). In February 2006, the organisation changed its name to Association des Hommes du Luxembourg. It succeeded the earlier Association luxembourgeoise d'Aide aux Hommes Divorcés ou en Instance de Divorce. While it continued to address divorce-related issues, it expanded its activities to other subjects, including school problems of young people, suicides in Luxembourg, sexual harassment, prostitution, domestic violence, workplace safety, insurance questions, and more generally any area where men, fathers or boys are victims of prejudice or discrimination. On 13 March 2008, the AHL and its president Fernand Kartheiser decided to sign a cooperation agreement with the political party Alternativ Demokratesch Reformpartei (ADR). This agreement allowed AHL candidates to run on ADR lists, as happened on 7 June 2009 in the Chamber elections. The decision resulted from a number of commonalities found in the programmes. The AHL has maintained a significant media presence, giving interviews to RTL and appearing in various press articles and political debates. As of October 2025, the association is registered in the trade register as 'en procédure de dissolution administrative sans liquidation'.
