History

ART Engineering GmbH was founded in 2003, initially operating from a basement. In 2004 the young company took on its first projects for well-known manufacturers from Germany and Europe, and in 2005 it moved into a new office in Oberried in the Black Forest. The company's first attraction built for an amusement park was the Flower Carousel at Wild- und Freizeitpark Klotten in 2007. In 2008 it produced the sculpture 'Man & Woman' in Vietnam, an early example of its special-construction and art work. In 2011 ART Engineering opened its first family roller coaster, Bombora, at Lagoon in the United States. In 2012 it built a brake test facility for Continental, demonstrating its capabilities in special-purpose machinery beyond amusement rides. The year 2015 saw the opening of its first Mega Coaster, Cannibal, also at Lagoon, a major step into large-scale thrill rides. ART Engineering subsequently developed a broad portfolio of ride models, including Kiddie Coasters, Family Coasters, Interactive Coasters and Mega Coasters, as well as flat rides such as the Wild Swing, Dark Ride and Flower Carousel. It also continued to produce custom special constructions, including a sweeping-machine test track for Kärcher and the 'Monument of 3 Powers' in Georgia. The company collaborated with Triotech on interactive dark rides, including Primordial at Lagoon and the NINJAGO The Ride dark rides in the Legoland parks. These projects earned industry recognition: Primordial won first place in the IAAPA Brass Ring Awards in the 'Major Ride/Attraction over 3 Mio. USD' category at the IAAPA Expo in Orlando, while the NINJAGO The Ride dark rides won first place at the UK Theme Park Awards 2021 for Best Interactive Attraction, second place at the parkscout/plus Award for Germany's best new attraction 2017, third place at the European Star Award for Europe's best new attraction 2017, and fifth and eighth places at the European Star Award for Europe's best dark ride in 2018 and 2019. The Family Launch Coaster Fridolin's verrückter Zauberexpress at Fantasiana won the Park World Excellence Award in the 'Best Roller Coaster – Limited Budget' category. By the 2020s ART Engineering had completed 211 projects in 15 countries, with more than 1.5 million riders, and had built a new energy-efficient company headquarters. Its customer references include Knott's Berry Farm in California, Canada's Wonderland in Canada and Wild- & Freizeitpark Klotten in Germany. In 2026 the company announced the opening of a new Family Spike Launch Coaster with Switch Track at Tier- und Freizeitpark Thüle.
