History
Armellodie Records was established in Glasgow in 2007 by Al Nero and Scott Maple, who were also members of Le Reno Amps. The label's name was taken from a track on Chilly Gonzales's 2004 album Solo Piano. Its first release arrived in February 2007: a 7-inch single titled "Wound Up" by Le Reno Amps. A further single by the same band followed, allowing the founders to establish the imprint through their own music before broadening its catalogue. In 2008, Armellodie made its first outside signing when it took on Cuddly Shark, a rock group from Elgin. The band's debut single for the label was "The Punisher of IV30". The same year, Sheffield band Kill The Captains released a four-track EP, extending the label's reach beyond its Glasgow and Scottish base. During the next few years, the roster remained relatively small. Super Adventure Club, a math-pop trio, joined before the label added a larger group of artists in 2010 and 2011: Thirty Pounds of Bone, The Scottish Enlightenment, Chris Devotion & The Expectations, The Douglas Firs, Something Beginning With L, and The Hazey Janes. Armellodie reached its thirtieth release in 2012. That year was also significant organizationally because the label began operating between Glasgow and Guangdong, China, following Nero's relocation. Despite this change, the label continued to present itself through its Glasgow connections and maintained a roster centered on independent music. Its activities were not limited to recordings. In early 2010, it organized the monthly BARmellodie club night at Glasgow's Bloc venue. Each event generally featured three bands, including a mixture of Armellodie artists and unaffiliated performers, together with a guest DJ. The label also organized summer tours. Tours held in August 2012 and August 2013 showcased several of its artists in live performances and helped connect the catalogue to an audience outside the release market. These events formed part of an integrated model in which the imprint combined recorded music, local live programming, and touring rather than functioning only as a release outlet. Release activity continued in 2013. Armellodie issued a second album by Cuddly Shark and new albums by Thirty Pounds of Bone, The Pure Conjecture, and Super Adventure Club. It also released two EPs by Galoshins. In 2014, the catalogue grew with second albums from The Hazey Janes and Chris Devotion and the Expectations, as well as the debut album by Dan Lyth and the Euphrates. The available account documents Armellodie's development through 2014 but provides no reliable information about later releases, current management, ownership, distribution, or whether the label remains active. The label is therefore best characterized as a historically documented independent Scottish imprint whose known catalogue and activities were concentrated in the late 2000s and early 2010s.
