Overview
Ariake Sangyo began with the manufacture of wooden boxes for one-gallon sake bottles. Over time, it shifted to the production of Western casks for aging sake and has been making casks for over 40 years. The company aims to be a total support provider for sake brewing, from raw material supply to maintenance, based on its cask business.
History
Ariake Sangyo was founded in 1973 by Toshio Odawara, who named the company after the Ariake Sea near his hometown. The company started with the manufacture and sale of wooden boxes for one-gallon sake bottles. In 1978, due to declining demand for wooden boxes, it began contract work for major sake manufacturers. In 1984, it built a cask factory in Tono, Miyazaki Prefecture, and started cask production. In 1995, it became the general agent in Japan for the French wine cask manufacturer Seguin Moreau. In 2009, it withdrew from contract work and made cask manufacturing and sales its main business. In 2016, it entered the liquor sales business and launched its own brand 'Tarusky'. In 2024, it began providing new equipment (wooden fermentation vats) and yeast, transforming into a business that totally supports distilleries in creating their desired flavors.
