Overview
ARBOmedia is a media advertising sales house and diversified media network. The brand originated in Germany, where it was founded in 1987 by Georg Bogner and Harald Albrecht as Arbo Gesellschaft für Vermarktung u. Herstellung von Medienprodukten mbH. Over the following decades it grew into one of Europe's largest advertising marketers, with a core business of marketing electronic media and a presence in nine countries through roughly 34 subsidiaries. Its headquarters were in Munich, with additional offices in Prague, Warsaw, Moscow, Istanbul, Bucharest, Spain and Bratislava. The company went public in 2000 and was listed on the Prime Standard of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange from 2003. In 2008 a majority stake was sold to the Swiss Goldbach Group, and in 2011 a squeeze-out ended stock trading and the Arbo name was folded into the Goldbach brand. The German entity was converted into ARBOmedia GmbH on 1 December 2011 and continues to exist, owned by members of the Albrecht family. Today the ARBOmedia brand is most visible in Romania, where it operates as an advertising sales outsourcing business for online and offline media channels. According to its official website, ARBOmedia describes itself as the largest diversified media network in Romania, covering influencer marketing, local radio, local television, local print press and outdoor advertising. Its offer includes more than 100 influencers, more than 110 radio stations, more than 140 websites, more than 40 television channels, more than 30 local print titles and a network of more than 600 billboards. The company positions itself as an aggregator and "one stop shop" for all services that clients and agencies request when running marketing campaigns, and it provides additional services in strategy, planning, production, evaluation and monitoring built on more than 20 years of experience. In early 2026 ARBOmedia and ThinkDigital announced the successful completion of an integration of their business operations, confirming that the two companies would operate under the ARBOmedia brand as a single entity starting in January 2026. The Romanian operation is therefore the current active face of the ARBOmedia name, while the German ARBOmedia GmbH remains a separate legal entity.
History
ARBOmedia traces its origins to 1987, when Georg Bogner and Harald Albrecht founded Arbo Gesellschaft für Vermarktung u. Herstellung von Medienprodukten mbH in Germany. The company's core business was the marketing of electronic media, and it grew into one of the largest advertising marketers in Europe. In 1990 it formed the joint venture IP Arbo together with IP S.A. (Havas Group). In 1998 the two owners carried out a management buy-out. Through the acquisition of AdMaster Network, Arbomedia also became active in the online business. The company went public in 2000, and in 2003 Arbo Media was listed on the Prime Standard of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. By the 2000s the group had expanded across Europe, operating in nine countries through roughly 34 subsidiaries. Its headquarters were in Munich, with further corporate locations in Prague, Warsaw, Moscow, Istanbul, Bucharest, Spain and Bratislava. After a restructuring in March 2008, the core business was divided into the divisions TV, Print and Online. The online activities were bundled under the Arbo Interactive division. The print division focused on marketing, particularly through Arbo Romania. With European Media Investment AG, the group for the first time took on the role of operator by acquiring stakes in eight Romanian publishing houses and printing plants with around 400 employees. The third division focused on the television business, where the Czech Republic played a leading role: since 1991 the marketing of state television with the four channels CT1, CT2, CT24 (news) and CT4 (sport) had been in the hands of Arbo Media. On 15 September 2008, the majority of the company was sold to the Swiss Goldbach Group, which was primarily interested in the company's market position in Eastern Europe. In 2011 a squeeze-out followed, after which stock trading in Arbo Media shares ended. Also in 2011, the business branches originating from the Arbo acquisition were integrated into the Goldbach brand, causing the Arbo name to disappear from operational business. The corporate entity was subsequently converted into ARBOmedia GmbH on 1 December 2011. This entity continues to exist, and its current shareholders are members of the Albrecht family. In Romania, the ARBOmedia brand remained active as an advertising sales house. Its official website describes it as the largest diversified media network in Romania, spanning influencer marketing, local radio, local television, local print press and outdoor advertising, with a portfolio of over 100 influencers, over 110 radio stations, over 140 websites, over 40 television channels, over 30 local print titles and a network of over 600 billboards. The company positions itself as an aggregator and one stop shop for media and marketing services, offering strategy, planning, production, evaluation and monitoring.
