Overview

The Association of German Family Organisations (AGF) e.V. is a registered association whose members are family organisations. It campaigns for the rights and interests of families in politics and society, promotes dialog between family associations and special-interest groups and those responsible for family policy, and supports cooperation on family-policy matters. Its secretariat is located at Oranienplatz 5, 10999 Berlin. The AGF was founded on 25 March 1954. Its board is chaired by Prof. Dr. Martin Bujard of the evangelische arbeitsgemeinschaft familie (eaf) e.V., with Petra Nicolaisen of Deutscher Familienverband e.V. as Vice Chair, and Sven Iversen as General Manager. The AGF publishes EuropaNews and discussion papers, and in many federal states the respective state levels of the family organisations have formed their own AGF.

History

The AGF was founded on 25 March 1954. On the occasion of its 60th anniversary, the author Vera Urban looked back with a series of articles at the work of the AGF over the past 60 years as well as at the social and political changes forming the framework for family policy; the parts published until the end of 2015 covered the founding of AGF and its first years, the sixties, German family policy and AGF in the seventies, family policy between crisis and redesign in the eighties, the 1990s as a turbulent decade with reunification and the German Constitutional Court forming new conditions for family policy, and new aspects in the new millennium from 2000 until then. For its 60th anniversary the AGF also published a brochure on its work and the development of family policy, containing a decade-oriented outline of the history of the AGF and of family policy, a timeline with a chronicle of the most important dates, an overview of the AGF's international activities and a short description of the AGF member organisations; the anniversary podium event took place on 20 November.
