Overview

Arbeit und Arbeitsrecht (often abbreviated AuA) is a German-language monthly trade magazine dedicated to human resources management and labour law. It is published in Berlin by HUSS-MEDIEN GmbH, part of the Huss Unternehmensgruppe. The magazine combines trends in personnel management with comprehensive coverage of current case law and new regulations. Its core subject areas are labour law, remuneration, and management, leadership and organisation. The publication traces its origins to 1 March 1946, when it first appeared as Arbeit und Sozialfürsorge, the official organ of the Central Administration for Labour and Social Welfare in the Soviet Occupation Zone of Germany. Over the following decades it broadened its scope to cover questions of work, occupational safety, labour law and social welfare. In 1962 the journal Arbeitsrecht was merged into it, and in 1963 it adopted the title Arbeit und Arbeitsrecht, which it still carries today. After German reunification, the magazine was published from issue 7/90 jointly by the publishers Die Wirtschaft and C. H. Beck, marking the first cooperation between East and West German publishers in the field of labour law. In 1991 the two publishers founded Arbeit und Arbeitsrecht – AuA GmbH. The Munich publisher Wolfgang Huss acquired several East German publishing houses from the Treuhandanstalt in September 1991. From 1996 the magazine appeared under Verlag Die Wirtschaft GmbH, and since 1999 it has been published by HUSS-MEDIEN GmbH after Verlag Die Wirtschaft was merged into it on 19 December 1998. In 2003 Arbeit und Arbeitsrecht merged with the magazine Personal-Profi and adopted the magazine format it retains today. Today the magazine is aimed at HR professionals, labour lawyers, works councils and managers. It offers in-depth articles, case law analysis, news, podcasts and special publications. Since 1998 it has been supported by a Publizistischer Beirat (editorial advisory board) composed of corporate practitioners, academics, federal judges and representatives of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS). Since 2006 it has organised the annual Kongress Arbeitsrecht, now a hybrid event, together with the Gesellschaft für Marketing und Service der Deutschen Arbeitgeber mbH.

History

Arbeit und Arbeitsrecht (AuA) is a German-language monthly trade magazine for human resources management. It is published in Berlin by HUSS-MEDIEN GmbH, part of the Huss Unternehmensgruppe, and connects trends in personnel management with comprehensive information on current case law and new regulations. Its key subject areas are labour law, remuneration, and management, leadership and organisation. The magazine first appeared on 1 March 1946 under the name Arbeit und Sozialfürsorge, as the official organ of the Central Administration for Labour and Social Welfare in the Soviet Occupation Zone of Germany. It was published by VEB Deutscher Zentralverlag after approval by the Soviet Military Administration in Germany (SMAD). In 1959 its scope expanded to cover questions of work, occupational safety, labour law and social welfare. From 1960 it carried the subtitle "Zeitschrift für alle Fragen der sozialistischen Arbeit und der sozialen Fürsorge" and was published by Verlag Die Wirtschaft. In 1962 the journal Arbeitsrecht was merged into Arbeit und Sozialfürsorge, which led to the magazine adopting its current title, Arbeit und Arbeitsrecht, in 1963, at that time still with the subtitle "Zeitschrift für sozialistische Arbeit und Arbeitsrecht". Following German reunification, from issue 7/90 Arbeit und Arbeitsrecht was published by the publishers Die Wirtschaft (converted into a GmbH in 1990, wholly owned by the Treuhandanstalt) and C. H. Beck. From July to December 1990 it appeared with the subtitle "Monatsschrift für die betriebliche Praxis". This was the first time publishers from East and West Germany cooperated in the field of labour law. In 1991 the two publishers founded Arbeit und Arbeitsrecht – AuA GmbH. In September 1991 the Munich publisher Wolfgang Huss bought from the Treuhandanstalt the ReWi Verlag für Recht und Wirtschaft (formerly the Staatsverlag der DDR), Verlag Die Wirtschaft, Verlag für Bauwesen and Verlag Technik. From 1996 Arbeit und Arbeitsrecht appeared under Verlag Die Wirtschaft GmbH. Since 1998, on the initiative of Wolfgang Hromadka and Rainer Sieg, it has been supported by a Publizistischer Beirat (editorial advisory board) composed of corporate practitioners, academics, federal judges and representatives of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS). Since 1999 the magazine has been published by HUSS-MEDIEN GmbH, after Verlag Die Wirtschaft was merged into it on 19 December 1998. In 2003 Arbeit und Arbeitsrecht merged with the magazine Personal-Profi and thereby acquired the magazine character it continues to carry today. Since 2006 Arbeit und Arbeitsrecht has organised the annual Kongress Arbeitsrecht together with the Gesellschaft für Marketing und Service der Deutschen Arbeitgeber mbH; it has since become a hybrid event bringing together academics, corporate practitioners and federal judges. The magazine remains active, publishing monthly issues, special publications, podcasts and daily news on its website.
