Overview
The Arab Administrative Development Organization (ARADO) is a specialized organization of the League of Arab States focused on administrative development in the Arab region. It was established in 1961 when the League's council approved its founding agreement (resolution 1754, 1 April 1961), and it began operations on 1 April 1969. Its mission is to contribute to administrative development in Arab countries in service of comprehensive development. ARADO serves the governments of its 20 Arab member states, as well as government organizations, business organizations, the private sector, and administrative leaders at supervisory, middle, and executive levels. Its main objectives include formulating and developing a national strategy for administrative development in the Arab world, developing Arab human resources, enriching Arab administrative thought and practice, studying and disseminating outstanding contemporary administrative experiences, highlighting the role of administration in accelerating economic and social development, treating administrative development as a continuous process, addressing current and future administrative challenges, focusing on the needs of less-developed Arab countries to narrow development gaps, and helping Arab countries that face difficulty in using Arabic in administration to Arabize administrative terms, concepts, and models. ARADO's governance consists of a General Assembly (the highest decision-making body, composed of representatives of all member states, meeting every two years in April), an Executive Council (seven members elected by the General Assembly for two years, meeting twice a year in April and October), and a General Directorate headed by a Director-General assisted by an Assistant Director-General, both appointed by the General Assembly for four years. The organization has been led by a succession of Arab management scholars from Egypt, Syria, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia. Its current Director-General is Dr. Nasser Al-Qahtani of Saudi Arabia, in office since 2015.
