Overview

Aptaun Records is a Polish independent record label specialising in rap and hip-hop. It was founded in 2007 in Warsaw by Tomasz Gochnio, who is also the owner of the company. The label releases albums on CD and vinyl, and beyond music it also sells clothing. Distribution of its releases is handled with the support of another company, Firma Księgarska Jacek Olesiejuk, which had previously focused on selling books but has also been involved in music since 2009. Among the label's most successful releases are "LOT 2011" by rapper Te-Tris — a track from which, "Ile mogę?", was included in T-Mobile Music's list of the 120 most important tracks in Polish hip-hop — Pyskaty's album "Pasja" (which reached No. 5 in its first week on the official Polish chart), and Peerzet's "Z miłości do gry" (No. 9 in its first week). The label runs its own YouTube channel, "Aptaun TV", where its music videos are posted. As of June 2013, only two videos had passed the one-million-view mark: "Podstawowe Instrukcje" by W.E.N.A. and "Od Zera" by Pyskaty. The label's roster has included Pyskaty, Tomiko, Siwers, W.E.N.A., Proximite, Te-Tris, PeeRZet and B.O.K, while Beeres and Żyt Toster collaborated with the label earlier in its history. Aptaun Records remains a niche, Warsaw-based independent label rooted in the Polish hip-hop scene.

History

Aptaun Records was established in 2007 in Warsaw, Poland, as an independent label dedicated to hip-hop. It was founded by Tomasz Gochnio, who also serves as the owner of the company. From the outset the label's core activity has been the release of rap and hip-hop albums, issued on CD and vinyl. In addition to recorded music, Aptaun Records also sells clothing. Distribution of the label's output is carried out with the support of another company, Firma Księgarska Jacek Olesiejuk, which had previously specialised in book sales but from 2009 also became involved in music. The label built a roster of Polish hip-hop artists including Pyskaty, Tomiko, Siwers, W.E.N.A., Proximite, Te-Tris, PeeRZet and B.O.K; earlier collaborators included Beeres and Żyt Toster.
