Anne Çocuk Education Fund

AÇEV (Anne Çocuk Eğitim Vakfı) is a Turkish foundation that has been working since 1993 to ensure that every young child is safe, healthy, happy, supported, and learning. It develops and implements scientifically based education programs for children, parents, and young women across Turkey, and conducts awareness and advocacy activities. Its work focuses on quality early childhood education, the role of families in raising future generations, gender equality, and lifelong learning, in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

AÇEV's first steps were taken in the 1980s through a research project conducted by Boğaziçi University academics Prof. Dr. Çiğdem Kağıtçıbaşı, Prof. Dr. Diane Sunar, and Prof. Dr. Sevda Bekman. Starting from the fact that preschool education in Turkey at that time reached only 7% of children, an alternative preschool education model, the Anne Çocuk Eğitim Programı (AÇEP), was developed and first implemented. In light of successful results, the Anne Çocuk Eğitim Vakfı was founded in 1993 under the leadership of Founding President Ayşen Özyeğin, opening its first office in Istanbul and beginning the first implementations of AÇEP. In 1993, work also began on developing an adult literacy program in response to needs observed among mothers, with a protocol signed with the Ministry of National Education. AÇEV's scientific programs became successful models of university, state, and civil society cooperation in Turkey, serving as examples for new education policies.
