Ankara Sigorta, officially Ankara Anonim Türk Sigorta Şirketi, was established on 16.05.1936 with a Bakanlar Kurulu (Council of Ministers) decision. It offers various insurance products including traffic, comprehensive (kasko), home, and health insurance. The company is currently majority-owned by POLSAN (99.83%).
History
Ankara Anonim Türk Sigorta Şirketi was established on 16.05.1936 by a decision of the Council of Ministers. The first chairman of the board was Celal Bayar, one of the former presidents of Turkey. Initial shareholders included Türkiye İş Bankası, Anadolu Anonim Türk Sigorta Şirketi, Etibank, Adapazarı Türk Ticaret Bankası, and Muvaffak İşmen. The initial headquarters was in Ankara, with operations in Istanbul. In 1990, Etibank's capital share increased to 85%, and the company was affiliated with Etibank by a Council of Ministers decision, completed on 14 April 1993. On 26 September 1997, Etibank shares were decided to be included in privatization, and on 20 April 2000, the main shares were purchased by Polis Bakım ve Yardım Sandığı from the Privatization Administration. In July 2002, the company received ISO 9001:2008 quality certificate from Bureau Veritas Quality International. As of 2025, Ankara Sigorta has received the Great Place to Work certificate.
