Overview
ANEMF (Association Nationale des Étudiantes et Étudiants en Médecine de France) is a French association under the law of 1901 that has worked since 1965 for the common interest of medical students. It brings together 36 representative local medical student associations as well as numerous student associations focused on solidarity and public health, exchanges, elected representatives, sport, and tutoring associations aimed at PASS/LAS and externes. The association presents itself as independent of any political party, union, or religion. It is a member of the Fédération des associations générales étudiantes (FAGE) and the International Federation of Medical Students' Associations (IFMSA). ANEMF represents students across 37 UFR (unités de formation et de recherche) and approximately 94,000 medical students from the first to the sixth year. Its missions include defending the rights and moral and collective interests of medical students, ensuring quality medical education, promoting scientific integrity, fighting discrimination, and advocating for a humane, global, solidarity-based, equitable, universal, performant, responsible, and sustainable health system. It also works to facilitate professional mobility and international exchanges. The association operates through a bottom-up representation system: students in each city are represented locally by their corpo médecine administrator and an elected UFR administrator, who sit at ANEMF as representatives of their city during General Assemblies and Administrative Councils. The Bureau National is mandated to represent the association at FAGE, IFMSA, and various national bodies, strictly following the directives of the administrators. ANEMF engages in public health actions such as the Téléthon, blood and platelet donation in collaboration with the Laurette Fugain association, and the Hôpital des nounours (Teddy Bear Hospital), first organized in 2004 in six UFRs to reduce children's fear of white coats. It also coordinates Tutoring for entry into health studies (PASS/LAS) with the five MMOPK federations. The association publishes guides such as the Carabook, the Guide des urgences médico-chirurgicales, the Guide de l'Étudiant en Médecine, the Guide des Dossiers Transversaux, and the Guide du D4. In 2025, ANEMF celebrated its 60th anniversary at the JEA in Paris.
History
ANEMF was created in 1965 as an association under the French law of 1901, with the purpose of working for the common interest of medical students. From its founding, it positioned itself as independent of any political party, union, or religion. Over the decades, it grew into a national federation representing local medical student associations across France's 37 UFRs (unités de formation et de recherche) and approximately 94,000 medical students from the first to the sixth year. In 2004, ANEMF organized the first Hôpital des nounours (Teddy Bear Hospital) in six UFRs, an event aimed at reducing children's fear of white coats; it has since been adopted by most cities. In 2010, for the Téléthon, ANEMF presented a donation of €128,000 on the France 2 set, collected through local actions in the cities of the 37 medical UFRs; this operation is renewed annually and orchestrated by ANEMF's global health and solidarity pole. The association also participates in blood and platelet donation in collaboration with the Laurette Fugain association. ANEMF has published several guides for medical students, including the Carabook: Le guide de l'externe (2011) by Ingrid Bastide and Nabil Dib, the Guide des urgences médico-chirurgicales (2011) with APNET, the Guide de l'Étudiant en Médecine, the Guide des Dossiers Transversaux, and the Guide du D4. It coordinates Tutoring for entry into health studies (PASS/LAS) with the five MMOPK federations (Maïeutique, Médecine, Odontologie, Pharmacie, Kinésithérapie). In 2025, ANEMF celebrated its 60th anniversary at the JEA (Journées des Élus et Administrateurs) in Paris. The association continues to be a member of FAGE and IFMSA, and remains active in representing medical students' interests at national and international levels.
