Android Wedakarayo

Android වැඩකාරයෝ (Android Wedakarayo) is a Sri Lankan technology news website and community platform operated by Android Wedakarayo (Private) Limited. It publishes news, feature stories, product reviews, tutorials, and knowledge-sharing content primarily in the Sinhala language, aiming to make the latest technology news accessible to Sinhala-speaking readers in Sri Lanka. The platform began as a Facebook group founded on June 29, 2013, by Thimira Madhusanka Thenuwara and a group of collaborators who envisioned a community-powered, self-sustaining news publishing platform in the native language of Sri Lanka. The website androidwedakarayo.com was approved by the board of directors on October 10, 2017, and launched on October 14, 2017, initially as a blog. Over time it grew into one of the most trusted tech communities in Sri Lanka, earning recognition such as the Tech Blogger of the Year 2018 award at Google I/O Extended Sri Lanka 2018 Awards. The site covers major technology topics including Apple, Samsung, Google, Android, AI, mobile wallets, and telecommunications regulation, with content contributed by community members and editors. It also organizes offline events such as the "Yourtube" meetup and the Peoples' Choice Award for the most popular smartphone brand of the year in Sri Lanka. The platform remains active, publishing regular news articles and features for its Sinhala-speaking audience.

Android වැඩකාරයෝ was founded on June 29, 2013, when Thimira Madhusanka Thenuwara and a group of like-minded individuals conceived the idea of a community-powered, self-sustaining news publishing platform in Sinhala, the native language of Sri Lanka. They established a Facebook group as the initial publishing platform. The group aimed to bring the latest technology news to Sinhala-speaking audiences and to allow anyone to contribute and update news, while also enabling anyone to read and access updates via the official website. On October 10, 2017, the board of directors approved the launch of the website androidwedakarayo.com, which went live on October 14, 2017, initially as a blog publishing technology news, knowledge-sharing content, tech equipment reviews, and tutorials in Sinhala. The platform quickly gained recognition and was named one of the most trusted tech communities in Sri Lanka, winning the Tech Blogger of the Year 2018 award at Google I/O Extended Sri Lanka 2018 Awards. In 2018, Android වැඩකාරයෝ also organized a meetup called "Yourtube" version 1.1, and started the Peoples' Choice Award ceremony to recognize the most popular smartphone brand of the year in Sri Lanka. A planned "YourTube" version 1.5 for 2019 was canceled due to the 2019 Sri Lanka Easter bombings. The website continues to operate as a technology news provider, covering major brands and topics such as Apple, Samsung, Google, Android, AI, mobile payments, and telecommunications regulation, with content contributed by community members and editors.
