History
Anaba Wines is a family-owned winery in Sonoma, California, founded by John Sweazey. Sweazey, originally from Park Ridge, Illinois, studied business at Stanford University and later sold computer systems for IBM in Chicago. In 1971, he left his corporate job to embark on a nine-month journey through Europe, from Finland to the Sahara Desert, where he developed a passion for wine and European hospitality. This experience inspired his dream to create an 'everyman's pinot' and a winery capturing a sense of camaraderie and conviviality. After returning to the US, he settled in San Francisco and worked in commercial real estate while continuing to explore wine culture on month-long European trips. In 2009, Anaba pioneered wind energy utilization in Northern California, combined with solar panels, to achieve 100% renewable electricity.
