Overview
Nakladatelství AMU (NAMU), in full Nakladatelství Akademie múzických umění v Praze, is the publishing house of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (AMU). It was established on 15 February 2002 as the legal successor to the AMU Publishing Centre (Ediční centrum AMU), which had been built in 1995 on the proposal of then Vice-Rector Miroslav Vojtěchovský with a grant from the Fund for the Development of Higher Education. NAMU is an information unit with university-wide scope, responsible for publishing and editorial activity and for making public the outputs of scholarly, pedagogical, artistic and other professional work by the school's teachers and students. Its activity is carried out on the basis of decisions of the AMU Editorial Council and commissions from AMU faculties and units. The governing body of NAMU is the editorial council, whose members include the delegated vice-rector, the director of NAMU, representatives of the faculties, the library director and possibly representatives of other units. On the basis of proposals from the editorial commissions of DAMU, HAMU and FAMU, the NAMU editorial council draws up the annual publishing plan. The house publishes books and periodicals in the performing arts, including titles such as Petr Kodenko Kubala's Rutina a revoluce, Lucie Dercsényi's Bohuslav Martinů a tanec, Jiří Lössl's Výchova vědomým pohybem v pedagogické a tvůrčí praxi, and Michal Čunderle and Mish Rais's Mezi hlasem a řečí, as well as notebooks and other items. It organizes book launch events, for example at the Skautský institut and Lžička Café in Prague, and issues press releases about new publications.
History
Nakladatelství AMU (NAMU) traces its origins to the Ediční centrum AMU (AMU Publishing Centre), which was built in 1995 on the proposal of then Vice-Rector Miroslav Vojtěchovský with a grant from the Fund for the Development of Higher Education. On 15 February 2002, NAMU was established as the legal successor to that centre. Since then it has served as the university-wide publishing and editorial unit of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, publishing the scholarly, pedagogical and artistic outputs of the school's teachers and students. Its governance is vested in an editorial council that includes the delegated vice-rector, the director of NAMU, faculty representatives and the library director; the council draws up the annual publishing plan based on proposals from the editorial commissions of DAMU (Theatre Faculty), HAMU (Music and Dance Faculty) and FAMU (Film and TV School). The house maintains a catalogue of books and periodicals and organizes public book launches and other events, such as the presentation of Petr Kodenko Kubala's Rutina a revoluce at the Skautský institut and of Lucie Dercsényi's Bohuslav Martinů a tanec at Lžička Café in Prague.
