History

Amnesty International Taiwan is one of the global branches under Amnesty International. After the lifting of martial law in 1987 permitted a political environment for it, and following multiple visits to Taiwan by overseas members, groups were formally established in Taipei and Kaohsiung at the end of 1989. It was not until May 1994 that 'Amnesty International Taiwan' was able to register and formally join the ranks of Amnesty International's global human rights movement, beginning to work alongside branches in different countries for human rights.
