Its marketing emphasizes education and proper technique, reflecting Kosilla's background as a detailer and his popular instructional video content. AMMO operates as a private company. Its products are available direct-to-consumer via its website, with shipping within the United States and internationally. The brand has a strong online presence, including social media under the handle @AMMONYC, and is recognized in the detailing community for its high-quality formulations and systematic approach to car care.

AMMO Auto Care, Inc. was founded by Larry Kosilla, a native of the New York City area who turned a lifelong passion for cars into a career. According to the company's official history, Kosilla graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in economics and initially worked in finance on the floor of the New York Mercantile Exchange, trading natural gas. Despite the high-stakes environment, he felt unfulfilled and eventually left finance to take a job at a small automotive museum in New York City, where he detailed cars before sale, prepped them for film shoots, and drove them through the city. Kosilla had started a small detailing business in high school, working out of driveways and parking lots, and his obsession with perfection led him to develop his own techniques and products. He founded AMMO Auto Care, Inc. to bring professional-grade car care products to a wider audience. The company is based in New York City and sells its products under the AMMO NYC brand through its website, ammonyc.com. AMMO's product line is organized around the concept of "Regimens"—step-by-step systems for paint care, wheel care, interior care, and other areas. The company has expanded from chemicals into tools and equipment, such as the AMMO US Steamer and US Steam Vacuum, which are professional-grade machines for interior detailing. AMMO has also built a significant following through educational content, including videos and social media, where Kosilla demonstrates proper detailing techniques. The company remains privately held and continues to operate as a direct-to-consumer brand, shipping products within the United States and internationally. Its products are used by enthusiasts and professional detailers, and the brand is recognized for its high-quality formulations and systematic approach to car care.
