Overview
AMH Group, also known as the Amicale Marocaine des Handicapés (AMH), is a Moroccan non-profit association and social enterprise founded in 1992 and recognized as being of public utility in 1996. It works to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities and vulnerable populations in Moroccan society through a combination of social entrepreneurship and public interest activities. Its operations are organized around three main poles: health, autonomy, and education and training. The health pole is anchored by the Centre Hospitalier Noor in Bouskoura, a physical medicine and rehabilitation facility created in 2001 and inaugurated by King Mohammed VI. The center offers specialized consultations, functional rehabilitation, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, psychomotricity, fitting and prosthetics, as well as medium- and long-stay hospitalization. A second Noor hospital center opened in Khouribga in 2019. The health pole operates on a solidarity-based economic model: each paid treatment helps finance access to care for patients in precarious situations, with profits reinvested to sustain social impact. The autonomy pole provides social action services, including medico-social support, technical assistance for mobility, hygiene and comfort, and help with administrative and legal procedures. It also works to improve the accessibility of Casablanca for people with disabilities and organizes socio-cultural activities. The education and training pole was launched in 2015 when the Institution Tahar Sebti, a non-profit association recognized as being of public utility, joined AMH. It develops inclusive school programs, supports school integration, and offers professional insertion services. The association also runs programs such as "L'École à l'Hôpital" for hospitalized children and an inclusive "Espace Édu-Créatif." In 2016, AMH adopted the identity "Act I Make I Hope" to reflect its renewed organization and social entrepreneurship mission. AMH is headquartered in Casablanca and operates primarily in Morocco. It is governed by a board of directors and has been led by president Amina Slaoui since 2011. The organization reports significant impact, including thousands of patients treated, hundreds of children schooled annually, and hundreds of professional insertions.
History
The Amicale Marocaine des Handicapés (AMH) was founded on 22 March 1991, according to French Wikipedia, to address the lack of care infrastructure dedicated to disability in Morocco. It began by conducting awareness-raising actions to mobilize the public and authorities, adopting a social model based on socio-professional solidarity. The official website states the association was founded in 1992 and recognized as being of public utility in 1996. In 2001, AMH launched its activities in the health sector and created the Centre Hospitalier Noor in Bouskoura, a rehabilitation and functional readaptation facility inaugurated by King Mohammed VI. The center spans two hectares and serves as an interface between post-operative care and return home, with 115 hospitalization beds, around thirty specialized consultation and rehabilitation rooms, a fitting service, and a showroom, employing nearly 170 collaborators. In 2008, to complement its health actions, AMH established a social action service to facilitate autonomy, with a team of social workers accompanying vulnerable and disabled people in realizing their life projects. In 2011, AMH renewed its organization to expand its social impact and affirm its status as a social entrepreneur. Amina Slaoui became president. In 2015, the Institution Tahar Sebti, a non-profit association recognized as being of public utility (created in 1953 and recognized in 1957), joined AMH, marking the launch of education and training activities. The following year, AMH developed further with a change of identity to "AMH (Act I Make I Hope)." In 2017, the Noor hospital center in Bouskoura expanded with a 2,000 m² extension, allowing it to accommodate more than 1,400 patients and deliver over 20,000 acts of physical rehabilitation and functional readaptation. In 2019, AMH opened its second hospital center in Khouribga, providing outpatient care in physical and rehabilitation medicine for the region. That same year, the Noor center in Bouskoura performed more than 27,000 free acts for vulnerable patients. Today, AMH operates through medical establishments, schools and training institutions, and a social action center, continuing its mission of inclusion for people with disabilities and vulnerable populations in Morocco.
