Overview

Alveran Records was a German independent record label founded in 1995 by Sascha Franzen. Based in Germany, the label built its identity around the harder edges of alternative music, releasing bands that moved between hardcore punk, metal, rock, emo and punk. Over its fourteen-year existence it became a recognizable name in the European underground scene, acting as a bridge between American labels and European audiences. A key part of Alveran's strategy was partnership. The label served as the European partner for US imprints Eulogy Recordings and Hand of Hope Records, handling European releases and distribution for selected titles from those rosters. From April 2006 it also collaborated with the American label Abacus Recordings, with the two labels jointly issuing selected Abacus titles in Europe. These alliances gave Alveran a steady pipeline of transatlantic releases and helped raise the profile of its own roster. Beyond records, Alveran was active as a live promoter. It organized the annual Pressure Festival in the Ruhr region of Germany, a fixture for fans of hardcore and metal, as well as various smaller local scene shows. This combination of label and event organizing placed Alveran at the center of a tightly knit community of bands and fans. Alveran Records operated from 1995 until 2009 and was dissolved in September 2009. Its catalog and partnerships remain a reference point for collectors and listeners interested in the European hardcore and metalcore scene of the late 1990s and 2000s.

History

Alveran Records was founded in 1995 by Sascha Franzen as an independent label based in Germany. From the outset it focused on the harder end of alternative music, releasing bands across hardcore punk, metal, rock, emo and punk. The label's name and output became associated with the German and wider European underground scene of the late 1990s and 2000s. A defining feature of Alveran's history was its role as a European partner for American labels. It handled European releases for Eulogy Recordings and Hand of Hope Records, bringing selected US acts to European audiences. In April 2006 the label entered a collaboration with the US label Abacus Recordings; under this partnership the two labels jointly released selected titles from the Abacus roster in Europe. Such deals allowed Alveran to combine its own signings with a curated flow of international releases. Alveran was also a live promoter. It organized the annual Pressure Festival in the Ruhr region of Germany, which became a gathering point for hardcore and metal fans, and it staged various local scene shows. This dual role as label and event organizer strengthened its ties to the community it served. Alveran Records existed from 1995 to 2009 and was dissolved in September 2009. Although the label is no longer active, its catalog and its partnerships with US labels remain part of the history of European hardcore and metalcore.
