Overview

Alpiq Anlagentechnik GmbH (AAT), formerly GAH Anlagentechnik Heidelberg, is a German engineering group and a sub-group of the Swiss energy utility Alpiq. It ranks among Europe's largest service providers in power generation, transmission and distribution as well as in grid and plant technology. Under the brand Energie- und Kraftanlagen, the group bundles more than 20 affiliated companies. Across roughly 150 branches and offices, over 4,500 employees serve energy utilities, municipal utilities, communications network operators, transport companies and industry in Germany and neighboring countries. The group's roots go back to 1916, when the Gesellschaft für elektrische Anlagen (GA) was founded. The 1922-founded Kraftanlagen AG (KA) was later combined with GA under the AGIV holding, which held about 70% of GA and about 65% of KA until 1992. In 1996 the two were merged into the GAH Gruppe, and in 1998 AGIV sold its stake to DBAG in a management buy-out, followed by a squeeze-out of remaining shareholders and a delisting. In 2000 the then Atel Holding — from which Alpiq later emerged — acquired 100% of GAH. In 2009 the company was renamed Alpiq Anlagentechnik. Until April 2007 the AAT group was organized into two business fields: Energieerzeugungs- und Anlagentechnik (EAT), covering power generation, environmental, supply and industrial plant engineering through the Kraftanlagen München, Kraftanlagen Heidelberg, Kraftanlagen Hamburg and Kraftszer Kft. (Budapest) companies; and Energieversorgungstechnik (EVT), covering power supply and grid technology (transport and telecommunications networks) through the GA Hochspannung Leitungsbau group, the regional GA Energieanlagenbau Süd companies, GA Energieanlagenbau Nord GmbH, Elektro Stiller GmbH, Frankenluk Energieanlagenbau GmbH and GA Netztechnik GmbH. On 27 April 2012 Alpiq announced the sale of the Energieversorgungstechnik division to the French Vinci group at a value of EUR 240 million. That division had generated 2011 revenue of EUR 512 million and EBITDA of EUR 37 million with around 3,000 employees (before consolidation and transaction adjustments). At the same time Alpiq decided to retain the second business field, Energieerzeugungs- und Anlagentechnik (EAT), within the Alpiq group. The remaining business, specialized in planning, construction, maintenance and dismantling of industrial and power plants, generated 2011 revenue of EUR 559 million and EBITDA of EUR 40 million with around 2,000 employees (before consolidation).

History

The history of Alpiq Anlagentechnik begins in 1916 with the founding of the Gesellschaft für elektrische Anlagen (GA). In 1922 the Kraftanlagen AG (KA) was founded. The AGIV holding company held about 70% of GA and about 65% of KA until 1992. In 1996 AGIV combined the two businesses into the GAH Gruppe. In 1998 AGIV sold its stake to DBAG in a management buy-out; subsequently the remaining free shareholders were acquired and the company was delisted, so its shares were no longer traded on the stock exchange. In 2000 the then Atel Holding — from which Alpiq later emerged — took over 100% of the shares in GAH. In 2009 the company was renamed Alpiq Anlagentechnik. Until April 2007 the activities of the AAT group were divided into two business fields. Energieerzeugungs- und Anlagentechnik (EAT) bundled the companies of the Kraftanlagen München Gruppe, Kraftanlagen Heidelberg Gruppe, Kraftanlagen Hamburg GmbH and Kraftszer Kft. (Budapest, Hungary), offering services in power generation, environmental, supply and industrial plant engineering. Energieversorgungstechnik (EVT) comprised companies in power supply and grid technology (transport and telecommunications networks): the GA Hochspannung Leitungsbau Gruppe, the regionally active companies of the GA Energieanlagenbau Süd Gruppe, GA Energieanlagenbau Nord GmbH, Elektro Stiller GmbH, Frankenluk Energieanlagenbau GmbH and GA Netztechnik GmbH. On 27 April 2012 Alpiq announced the sale of the Energieversorgungstechnik division to the French Vinci group at a value of EUR 240 million. The Energieversorgungstechnik division had generated 2011 revenue of EUR 512 million and EBITDA of EUR 37 million with around 3,000 employees (before consolidation and transaction adjustments). At the same time Alpiq decided to continue the second business field of the AAT group, Energieerzeugungs- und Anlagentechnik (EAT), as part of the Alpiq group. The remaining company, specialized in the planning, construction, maintenance and dismantling of industrial and power plants, generated 2011 revenue of EUR 559 million and EBITDA of EUR 40 million with around 2,000 employees (before consolidation).
