History
ALPICO TAXI Co., Ltd. was founded on December 27, 1951, and has since grown to become the largest taxi operator in Nagano Prefecture. The company was originally part of the ALPICO Group, a regional conglomerate with interests in transportation, retail, and tourism. In the 2000s, the group underwent restructuring. On September 1, 2007, ALPICO Taxi Kiso Co., Ltd. changed its name to Yabuhara Taxi Co., Ltd. On January 1, 2008, ALPICO Taxi Chuo Co., Ltd. absorbed ALPICO Taxi Matsumoto Co., Ltd. On July 1, 2008, group companies became wholly owned subsidiaries of ALPICO Holdings Co., Ltd., a holding company. On November 1, 2008, following the discontinuation of the Nagano–Chubu Centrair International Airport highway bus route, a direct airport taxi service to Centrair began. A major reorganization occurred on April 1, 2011, when ALPICO Taxi Chuo Co., Ltd. absorbed four group companies—ALPICO Taxi Okaya, ALPICO Taxi Suwa, ALPICO Taxi Chino, and ALPICO Taxi Nagano—and changed its trade name to ALPICO TAXI Co., Ltd. This created the current corporate entity. Further consolidation followed: on April 1, 2016, ALPICO TAXI absorbed Shinshu ALPICO Taxi Co., Ltd. and Utsunomiya Co., Ltd. On April 1, 2019, it absorbed Alps Kotsu Co., Ltd. On May 31, 2019, the direct airport service to Centrair was discontinued, and the airport service was suspended. On April 1, 2022, ALPICO Holdings transferred all shares of ALPICO TAXI to ALPICO Kotsu Co., Ltd., making ALPICO TAXI a wholly owned subsidiary of ALPICO Kotsu. On October 3, 2022, the company introduced a taxi dispatch app. In recent years, ALPICO TAXI has embraced digitalization and partnerships. On December 1, 2024, it began Uber Taxi dispatch services in the Hakuba area as part of the Hakuba MaaS project, initially limited until March 31, 2025, and then expanded to Omachi and Azumino from April 1, 2025. On April 22, 2025, Uber Taxi services started in the Nagano transportation area. On July 26, 2025, Uber Taxi began in the Suwa area, and on July 28, 2025, in the Matsumoto area. On October 16, 2025, the Karuizawa office was opened. The company also operates shared-ride buses under contracts with local municipalities, including the Gurutto Matsumoto Bus, Matsumoto City Bus, Shiojiri City Regional Promotion Bus "Step-kun", and others.
