Overview
The All-Ukrainian Association of Music Events (UAME; Ukrainian: Всеукраїнська асоціація музичних подій) is a Ukrainian public organization founded in 2019 in Kyiv by representatives of the country's music industry. Its stated purpose is to create an open and favorable environment for the music community and to provide support and promotion for Ukrainian musical output. UAME works on behalf of performers, bands, composers and authors, music producers, production centers, labels, publishers, recording studios, music agencies, managers, event organizers, music communities and media, technical production contractors, ticketing operators and other music-industry participants. The association is a membership body of 12 members, including major Ukrainian festivals such as Atlas Festival and Tavriyski Ihry, the Atlas club concert venue, event organizer Master Show, ticketing operators Gastroli.ua and TickestBox, media holding TAVR Media and music channel M1, mass-event technical contractors Ritmo and PROFI, and the band Antytila. Through this coalition UAME acts as a convening and advocacy platform for the live-music sector. UAME's activity is organized around projects rather than commercial releases. In 2019 it ran Growmada, an ecological and social project staged at seven Ukrainian festivals (Atlas, Faine Misto, Respublica, Zaxidfest, Khortytsia Freedom, Skhid-Rok and XepcON), combining environmental practices, inclusive activities and civic platforms. In 2020 it organized the Night Mayors Forum with Night Ambassadors, bringing together night-time culture representatives from Ukraine and Europe, and the 3D online festival Cosmic Atlas Weekend in cooperation with M1, which received a special YUNA award. In 2021 it launched the nationwide eco-project EKOnom the Planet, the BAZA physical hub for young musicians, and a series of nature-location DJ sets. Following the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, on 1 March 2022 UAME founded the humanitarian fundraising initiative Music Saves Ukraine, which coordinates fundraising, humanitarian aid, cultural-infrastructure recovery, cultural diplomacy and support for Ukrainian performers at international events. In the 2022 festival season Music Saves Ukraine took part in three European festivals, including a Ukrainian stage at the Czech Rock for People festival organized with Atlas Festival.
History
The All-Ukrainian Association of Music Events (UAME) was founded in 2019 in Kyiv by representatives of the Ukrainian music industry. It was established as a public organization with the aim of creating an open and favorable environment for the music community and of supporting and promoting national musical output. Its membership was built around 12 organizations and companies spanning the live-music value chain: festivals Atlas Festival and Tavriyski Ihry; the Atlas club concert venue; event organizer Master Show; ticketing operators Gastroli.ua and TickestBox; media holding TAVR Media and music channel M1; technical contractors for mass events Ritmo and PROFI; and the band Antytila. In its first year, 2019, UAME carried out the Growmada project, an ecological and social initiative implemented at seven Ukrainian festivals: Atlas, Faine Misto, Respublica, Zaxidfest, Khortytsia Freedom, Skhid-Rok and XepcON. The project promoted festival culture through environmental practices, inclusive activities and civic platforms, engaging visitors in social dialogue. Reported results included 1,478 visitors with disabilities, 5 social taxis, 8 special platforms, 7,351 kg of sorted waste, 252 volunteers, 156 NGOs participating in a civic alley, and 36,500 guests, 12 speakers and 1 lecture hall. In 2020 UAME organized the Night Mayors Forum, an event for exchanging experience between night mayors of Ukraine and Europe, aimed at developing night culture and organized jointly with Night Ambassadors. The first forum featured Lviv night ambassador Chad Zoratly, Vilnius night mayor Mark Adam Harold, Budapest night ambassador Daniel G. Nemet, Kharkiv night mayor Artur Pryimak, UAME members and others. That same year, under pandemic restrictions, UAME cooperated with M1 on Cosmic Atlas Weekend, a 3D online festival that also raised topics of domestic violence and reminded viewers of social-distancing rules. The 11 July broadcast featured artists Mozgi, Ingret, U_C, Michelle Andrade, NIKITA LOMAKIN and Vremya i Steklo. The project received a special YUNA award. In 2021 the association ran EKOnom the Planet, an all-Ukrainian eco-project drawing attention to environmental problems in Ukraine's natural places and the country as a whole. It included an autograph tour by Ukrainian rapper alyona alyona at METRO Waste Collection Points in Lviv, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Odesa and Mykolaiv, where visitors who brought at least 1 kg of waste for recycling received an autograph and merchandise. A second part was a series of DJ sets by Ukrainian artists at natural locations: XENIA on Dzharylgach Island, Miss Monique at Stanislavski Kruchi, Mr. Sunny at Lake Synevyr, Arfeeva at Bakota, Helen&Boys at Pyvykha Mountain, Daria Kolosova at the pink lakes of Kherson region, Probass at Pamir station and 2K DJ at Chornobyl. The videos combined music with landscapes to highlight environmental issues, merging electronic music, ecotourism and visual art. Also in 2021, UAME launched BAZA, a physical hub for young representatives of various musical genres, intended to expand opportunities for artists and give them access to resources for creating music content, performing and professional development. Ukrainian musicians including Antytila and Arsen Mirzoyan took part in live performances supporting young artists. In total 13 events were held with 12 artists performing; ten performances were open-format and two were streamed online, including a set by Onita Boone and a concert by Arsen Mirzoyan. Participants included Antytila Unplugged, Ofliyan, Kulshenka Band, Hyphen Dash + Otoy + The Lazy Jesus, Mazhora, Arsen Mirzoyan, Ingret, Komissiya and Onita Boone. A joint event with the jazz community FUSION JAMS was also held as an open jam in which 132 musicians took part in a live queue. With the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, UAME redirected its activity and on 1 March 2022 founded the humanitarian initiative Music Saves Ukraine. This non-commercial fundraising initiative was created in response to the humanitarian challenges of the war by uniting representatives of the music industry. Its areas of activity are fundraising in cooperation with festivals, artists and music organizations in Ukraine and abroad; humanitarian aid responding to urgent needs of the civilian population, purchasing and delivering resources for internally displaced persons and to front-line cities and affected regions; recovery of cultural infrastructure by supporting the rebuilding of damaged cultural institutions, purchasing equipment and organizing special events and projects; cultural diplomacy popularizing Ukrainian culture and music internationally and building dialogue between Ukrainian and world cultural representatives through cooperation with music conferences and other events; and support for Ukrainian performers by facilitating their participation in international events, festivals and showcases. In the 2022 festival season, Music Saves Ukraine took part in three European festivals. At the Czech Rock for People festival in Hradec Králové, in cooperation with the Ukrainian Atlas festival and the Music Saves Ukraine initiative, a Ukrainian stage was organized featuring The Hardkiss, Latexfauna, Zbarask and others.
