The company traces its origin to 1912, when Albrecht Jung founded a small business near the current location in Schalksmühle, focused on producing his patent-pending pull cord switch with 1/8 rotation.

The JUNG story begins in 1912, when Albrecht Jung founded a small business near the current location in Schalksmühle. The focus was the production of his patent-pending invention, the pull cord switch with 1/8 rotation, whose particularly short actuation path still forms the basis of all the company's switch designs today. According to Harald Jung, today's chair of the supervisory board, his grandfather had been employed as a master craftsman at a company in Schalksmühle and, after his ideas fell on deaf ears, initially rented some cellar rooms and became self-employed. Together with his later partner Ernst Paris, Albrecht Jung quickly led the company to business success. Only a few years later he bought an old school building and a nearby greenhouse that was converted into a temporary production facility in 1919; the first JUNG factory building was then built in Schalksmühle in 1927/1928. Albrecht Jung and Ernst Paris also led the company together through two world wars. The company states that its 'Progress as tradition' principle has guided it for more than 110 years, and that preserving traditions and values as well as investing in research and sustainable technologies are deeply rooted elements of its DNA, connected primarily with the self-image of the founding family for more than three generations.
