Akurama Records was founded in 1980 in Jakarta, Indonesia, by Hartono Hendra. Prior to establishing Akurama, Hendra was a producer at the record company Irama Tara until the late 1970s. In the early 1980s, he left Irama Tara and founded Akurama Records. The label quickly became active in producing and releasing albums, and also ventured into film production, producing movies such as Ira Maya dan Kakek Ateng, Nakalnya Anak-anak, and Ira Maya Putri Cinderella. Over the years, Akurama built a diverse roster of Indonesian artists, including Nicky Astria, Ayu Ting Ting, Dina Mariana, Fariz RM, Iis Dahlia, Kelompok Kampungan, Abiem Ngesti, Nia Daniaty, Ria Resty Fauzy, Mega Mustika, Jamrud, Poppy Mercury, Ipank, Norman Divo, Al Rizal, Johan Untung, Yopie Latul, Barakatak, Julius Sitanggang, and Jhonny Iskandar. With over 40 years of experience, the company expanded its services to include digital distribution, song production, and music licensing. Its catalog now exceeds 10,000 songs.
