Overview

Aktion Tagwerk is a development-policy school campaign of Stiftung Tagwerk. It offers students in Germany the chance to engage for peers in other countries; companies and private individuals can also support worldwide projects. Within the campaign, students work for a day, find sponsors for a sponsored run, or organize a joint creative activity as a class, and donate their earnings or proceeds. The money supports projects for children and young people around the world. In 2026 the Aktionstag takes place on 23 June, though each school can also hold its action day on an individually chosen date. Stiftung Tagwerk provides educational materials for sustainable development (BNE) for preparation and follow-up, covering topics such as social justice, children's rights, climate and resource protection, and promoting critical thinking, perspective change, and the ability to become active. The campaign was called into life in 2003 and has taken place nationwide since 2007. In 2002, Human Help Network e.V. founded Aktion Tagwerk as a nonprofit association in Mainz, and Stiftung Tagwerk was founded. In 2003 the concept was first implemented in Rhineland-Palatinate.

History

In 1994, Human Help Network e.V. started the school campaign "Go for Rwanda" in Mainz. In 2002, the school campaign was further expanded; Human Help Network e.V. founded Aktion Tagwerk as a nonprofit association in Mainz, and Stiftung Tagwerk was founded. In 2003, the concept of "Aktion Tagwerk" — students engaging for disadvantaged children and young people in other regions of the world — was implemented for the first time in Rhineland-Palatinate. The campaign "Aktion Tagwerk" was called into life in 2003 and has taken place nationwide since 2007. For over two decades, Stiftung Tagwerk has worked through the "Aktion Tagwerk" campaign for children without access to education. More than three million students have actively engaged for the campaign so far. Revenues support children and young people in Tagwerk projects in Rwanda, Uganda, and a variety of aid projects worldwide.
