History
The Akademische Monatsblätter (AM) was first published in 1888 as the magazine of the Kartellverband katholischer deutscher Studentenvereine (KV), a Catholic student association founded in 1865. The magazine was initially edited by Otto Wilpert, a grammar school teacher, from 1888 to 1889. Subsequent editors included Paul Weilbächer (1889–1891), Karl Hoeber (1891–1924), Martin Luible (1924–1931), and Götz Freiherr von Pölnitz (1931–1935). In August 1935, the magazine had to cease publication, likely due to political pressures in Nazi Germany. It resumed in April 1947, initially as a circular, under the editorship of Ewald vom Rath (1947–1951). Later editors were Fritz Krabus (1951–1954), Josef Schumacher (1954–1958), Wilhelm Schreckenberg (1958–2004), Wolfgang Löhr (2004–2016), and since 2016 Reinhard Nixdorf. The magazine has been published ten times a year with a circulation of 15,000 copies, including an online edition. It is published by the Kommissionsverlag Verband alter KVer in Marl and printed by Bonifatius Verlag in Paderborn. All issues since 1888 are freely accessible on the KV website.
