Overview

AKA is a German specialist bank for export and trade finance. According to its official website, it has accompanied banks, companies and states in financing international projects for more than 70 years, connecting capital with expertise and worldwide networks. Its history begins in 1952, when state and private banks founded AKA to strengthen exports; today it describes itself as a successful specialist credit institution shaping the trade finance of tomorrow. It works with European export credit agencies (ECAs) and offers ECA-covered financings, structured finance solutions and services for banks, exporters, borrowers and importers.

History

AKA's history begins in 1952, when state and private banks founded the institution to strengthen exports. On 28 March 1952, leading German banks under the leadership of Rheinisch-Westfälische Bank AG founded the Ausfuhrkredit-Aktiengesellschaft (AKA) in Frankfurt am Main. In 1961 it moved to Große Gallusstraße 1-7, which remains its location in the heart of Frankfurt. In the 1970s it introduced forfaiting and financial credits, and the 1978 OECD Consensus set new standards for fair export financings. In 1976 the Hermes reform modernised the German system of export credit guarantees. From the 1980s, basic and framework credit agreements with foreign banks gave exporters fast and reliable access to financings. In the 2000s the offering was expanded with CIRR financings, multisourcing and rescheduling services, and AKA became a European trade finance institution. In 2011 KfW IPEX-Bank joined its shareholder group. In 2017 activities were opened to banks outside the shareholder group. Today it reports 17 shareholders, international networks, and a clear alignment with the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals and the European Green Deal.
