Overview
AirWay Technologies is an American supplier of telecommunications network infrastructure products and services, headquartered in Hebron, United States. Founded in 1992 by Jerry Grubbs under the name "2nd Source Cellular," the company was renamed AirWay Technologies in 2003 and has since grown into a leading provider of new, certified pre-owned and repurposed wireless network equipment, asset management programs and related professional services. Its customers include global carriers, distributors and enterprise clients, and its products have been sold to over 250 customers in more than 70 countries. The company's core business centers on the repurposed wireless infrastructure market, where it is described as a pioneer. AirWay sells a wide range of new and pre-owned wireless network equipment across multiple OEMs, including Ericsson, Nokia and Huawei. Its product portfolio covers switching solutions, routers, SFPs, radios, fiber and coax cable assemblies, custom racking and BTS configurations, power supplies, antennas and RF components. Alongside equipment sales, AirWay operates over 30 consignment relationships with tier-one, tier-two and various-sized carriers, and provides asset decommissioning and disposition as an R2 certified recycler. AirWay's service offerings combine technical services — such as engineering, installation, testing and EV charging construction — with supply chain services including inventory, transportation and warehouse management. Specific capabilities include installation and integration, turnkey 5G small cell sites, Ericsson/Nokia commissioning, DC/AC power projects, decommissioning of data centers, switch rooms and cell sites, OSP and FTTX installation, project management, field services, redeployment, site kitting, refurbishment and repair, and deinstallation. The company positions itself as a highly integrated provider that helps customers reduce capital and operational expenditures without compromising network reliability or performance, while also reducing deployment times. Ownership of AirWay Technologies has changed hands over the years. Mike Grubbs took over ownership in 2006, and in 2018 the company was acquired by a group of wireless industry professionals led by Mark Gergel and Tom Eaton. The company has continued to expand its capabilities and footprint, achieving R2, ISO and OHSAS certifications in 2019, constructing a new state-of-the-art warehouse, test lab and headquarters facility, and opening additional warehouse facilities in Tampa, Florida and Pensacola, Florida in 2023. In 2024, MNS Group companies merged into AirWay. The company also formed VAR partnerships with Ceragon, Ciena, Juniper and Samsung, and registered for ITAR export compliance in 2021. In 2022, AirWay celebrated 30 years in business.
History
AirWay Technologies was founded in 1992 by Jerry Grubbs under the name "2nd Source Cellular." In 1999, the company executed its first consignment agreement, a business model that would grow to include over 40 active agreements. In 2002, AirWay made its first sale into the Europe, Middle Eastern, Asia and Pacific markets, and internally developed the Trakker© wireless market intelligence software.
