Overview

Air-Taxi Europe (stylized as air-taxi europe, abbreviated a-te) was a German airline headquartered in Braunschweig and based at Braunschweig-Wolfsburg Airport. Founded in 2005, the company operated regional scheduled services within Germany and ad-hoc charter flights for business clients, time-critical freight, donor organs, and dangerous goods. It was notable for being the first airline to commercially operate the Austrian Diamond Aircraft DA42 "Twin Star", and later became the only German operator of the Reims-Cessna F406 after Flugdienst Fehlhaber ceased operations. In 2009 it entered the regional air transport market under the brand flyate.de. The airline filed for insolvency at the Braunschweig Local Court on 1 December 2025 and ceased flight operations, citing declining bookings in ad-hoc freight charter and rising maintenance costs. At the time of closure it operated four Cessna F406 aircraft.

History

Air-Taxi Europe was founded in 2005 in Braunschweig, Lower Saxony, Germany. It established its base at Braunschweig-Wolfsburg Airport and began operations as a regional airline and charter provider. The company gained distinction as the first airline to commercially operate the Diamond Aircraft DA42 "Twin Star", an Austrian-made twin-engine light aircraft. From the end of 2007, it also operated Reims-Cessna F406 aircraft, which could be configured for both passenger and cargo transport. Following the cessation of flight operations by Flugdienst Fehlhaber, Air-Taxi Europe became the only German operator of the Cessna F406 type. One of its aircraft, the D-IATE, was the first European-certified Cessna of the 400 series equipped with the Garmin G600 glass cockpit. In 2009, the company expanded into regional air transport under the brand flyate.de. The airline provided domestic German routes and charter services for business customers, time-critical freight, donor organs, and dangerous goods. As of September 2020, its fleet consisted of six business aircraft. On 1 December 2025, Air-Taxi Europe filed for insolvency at the Braunschweig Local Court and ceased flight operations. At that time, it operated four Cessna F406 aircraft. The company attributed its financial difficulties to declining bookings in the ad-hoc freight charter sector and increased maintenance costs.
