Overview
AGIPI (Association générale interprofessionnelle de prévoyance et d'investissement) is a French association of insured members founded in 1976. It acts as a subscriber to insurance contracts covering retirement, savings, provident insurance and health, and it markets these contracts to independent workers, liberal professions and salaried employees. The association is governed by articles 21 et seq. of the local civil code applicable in Alsace-Moselle and is registered in the associations register of Schiltigheim (volume XXI, no. 1049). Its registered and administrative headquarters are in Schiltigheim, while its management is based in Paris. AGIPI was founded by medical professionals, liberal and independent workers in partnership with Drouot, which later became AXA. Among its co-founders were architect Jean Dick (president from 1976 to 1989), Dr François-Xavier Walter (president from 1989 to 2002) and Claude Fath (president from 2002 to 2013). François Pierson was elected president by the board of directors in 2013, and Agnès Pfertzel is identified as president in the association's recent communications. AGIPI develops its own products and negotiates with AXA to adapt its contracts to members' expectations and to changes in insurance legislation and regulation. Its contracts are managed by a dedicated management centre, the company ADIS, which employs around 600 people in Alsace. By 2020 the association reported nearly 620,000 members and more than 830,000 contract adhesions, with €20 billion of savings entrusted to it for management. Its website highlights more than 1,244,568 adhesions to AGIPI contracts, over 50 years of experience and expertise, and around 4,000 advisers. AGIPI's offer is multi-awarded for the quality of its guarantees and is adapted to independent workers, liberal professions and salaried employees. Its main product lines include health protection, savings and investment, retirement savings, provident insurance (income replacement in case of incapacity to work) and borrower insurance (protecting loans in case of work stoppage, invalidity or death). AGIPI is also engaged in socially responsible investment (ISR). It is a founding member of Finance for Tomorrow, a community of private, public and institutional actors committed to the transition to a sustainable economy. It was the first actor to offer an ISR-labelled SICAV in April 2017 and to create an ESG-driven managed mandate allowing members to invest in more than 17 ISR-labelled unit-linked funds. In January 2021 it announced that the 'Agipi Monde Durable' fund had become one of the first carbon-compensated unit-linked funds on the French market, compensated through financing of the 'Kasigau Corridor REDD+' reforestation project in southern Kenya, managed by BNP Paribas Asset Management. Beyond insurance, AGIPI runs initiatives for entrepreneurs and independent workers. In April 2017 it launched AGIPI Lab, a laboratory dedicated to observing and analysing transformations in entrepreneurship and independent work, and it publishes a barometer on these issues. In 2018 it partnered with Kedge business school to launch the Agipi-Kedge research chair on independent work and new forms of entrepreneurship, and it launched the 'Génération entrepreneurs, Prix AGIPI pour un monde durable' award for socially or environmentally committed local start-ups. In 2019, following the entry into force of the Pacte law, it launched FAR PER, a new retirement savings plan open to employees and independent workers. In June 2021 it announced the addition of a 'garantie violences conjugales' (domestic violence guarantee) to its 'CAP' provident contract, the first such guarantee in a French provident contract.
History
AGIPI was founded in 1976 by medical professionals, liberal and independent workers in partnership with Drouot, which later became AXA. Its statutes were filed with the Journal Officiel on 10 February 1976. Among the co-founders were architect Jean Dick, who served as president from 1976 to 1989; Dr François-Xavier Walter, president from 1989 to 2002; and Claude Fath, president from 2002 to 2013. The association is governed by articles 21 et seq. of the local civil code in force in Alsace-Moselle and is registered in the associations register of Schiltigheim, volume XXI, no. 1049. Its registered and administrative headquarters are in Schiltigheim, while its management is in Paris. By 2012 the association counted more than 500,000 adhesions, including more than 80,000 entrepreneurs. In 2013 François Pierson was elected president by the board of directors. On 7 February 2015 the creation of the AGIPI endowment fund (fonds de dotation) was published in the Journal Officiel; its mission is to select and finance projects that 'contribute to placing humans back at the heart of medical expertise, care and the support of people made fragile by illness or accident, and thus enable collaboration between conventional medicine and complementary medicines.' In 2017 AGIPI launched AGIPI Lab, a laboratory for independent workers and entrepreneurs to observe and analyse transformations in entrepreneurship and independent work. In 2018 it partnered with Kedge business school and management school to launch the Agipi-Kedge research chair on 'independent work and new forms of entrepreneurship', and it launched a new provident offer, CAP Entrepreneur, dedicated to entrepreneurs starting out. In 2019, in October, AGIPI launched FAR PER, a new retirement savings plan open to employees and independent workers, following the entry into force of the Pacte law. In 2020 the association mobilised to help and support its members during the Covid-19 crisis. In June 2021 AGIPI announced the addition of a 'garantie violences conjugales' (domestic violence guarantee) to its 'CAP' provident contract, the first provident contract in France to offer such a guarantee. AGIPI has also been active in socially responsible investment. On 7 January 2021 AGIPI announced that the 'Agipi Monde Durable' fund had become one of the first carbon-compensated unit-linked funds on the French market; accessible in every contract, it is compensated by financing the 'Kasigau Corridor REDD+' reforestation project in southern Kenya, managed by BNP Paribas Asset Management. In terms of operations, the association develops its own products and negotiates with AXA to adapt its contracts to members' expectations and to changes in insurance legislation and regulation. It develops its own products managed by a dedicated management centre, the company ADIS, which employs around 600 people in Alsace. In April 2017 AGIPI created a laboratory dedicated to independent workers and entrepreneurs, who represent more than half of its members, to observe and analyse transformations in entrepreneurship and independent work, to study the problems they face in savings, retirement, provident insurance and health, and to bring these issues into public debate. For example, the third barometer produced shows that entrepreneurs are well aware of financial risks but that 'only 28% of managers have taken the time to measure risks other than financial ones' (health, work overload, etc.). In 2018 AGIPI launched an award for entrepreneurs and independent workers: 'Génération entrepreneurs, Prix AGIPI pour un monde durable'. Launched in several major cities, the Prix AGIPI rewards a local start-up committed on a social or environmental level and whose business model is viable. The association receives and studies applications and first pre-selects 8 start-ups for each city. A jury then designates 4 finalists who are invited to present their concept at the Rencontres AGIPI. The winner of the Prix AGIPI is chosen by the audience at the Rencontre. The association has received awards from the press and specialised organisations, including Oscars awarded by the monthly Gestion de Fortune.
