History
Agere Systems was created in 2000 through a spin-off from Lucent Technologies and began operating as an independent semiconductor company. It carried forward parts of Lucent's communications-chip activities, focusing on integrated circuits for communications, networking, and storage applications. Its products served markets including mobile phones, networking equipment, and hard-disk drives, primarily through semiconductor solutions supplied to equipment manufacturers. As competition and consolidation reshaped the semiconductor industry, Agere became part of LSI Corporation. LSI acquired Agere Systems in 2007, after which Agere no longer operated as an independent company or brand.
