Overview
AFTraduction is a French professional translation and interpreting agency based in Montreuil, on the eastern edge of Paris. It specialises in certified (sworn) translation, legal, medical and technical translation, and in interpreting delivered on site, by telephone or by videoconference. The agency presents itself as a multilingual service covering more than 200 languages and dialects in interpreting — including spoken languages that have no written form — and 75 languages in sworn translation, corresponding to 127 certified language pairs handled by translators sworn before French courts of appeal. It works with a stated international network of around 700 native, certified expert translators and interpreters. The company was founded in September 2022 by Adlane Debassi, a translator and interpreter trained in Algeria and France who is listed as a judicial expert at the Dijon Court of Appeal in English and Arabic. AFTraduction began life as a subsidiary of the AFT group and became independent from that group in January 2025. It serves companies, law firms, public authorities and private individuals, both in France and internationally, and applies translation procedures in line with the ISO 17100 standard for translation services — a standard the agency is careful to describe as a process benchmark rather than an independent certification. Its service range extends beyond classic document translation. AFTraduction offers sworn translation of civil-status records, diplomas, immigration documents and court judgments; legal translation of contracts, articles of association, court decisions and notarial deeds; financial translation of annual reports, financial statements and AMF/IFRS compliance material; medical translation of certificates, reports and care files; and judicial and social interpreting for hearings, police custody, prefectures, hospitals and asylum procedures. It also provides professional subtitling for corporate videos, advertising, e-learning, webinars, YouTube and social-media content, and film and documentary work, with artificial intelligence positioned as an option for urgent, high-volume projects. Positioning itself on rigour, responsiveness and accessibility, the agency emphasises project management, confidentiality commitments and sector knowledge in fields such as pharmaceuticals, law, finance, engineering and e-commerce. Its stated mission is to transpose clients' ideas rather than merely their words. The agency also publishes explanatory content on translation-related topics, such as the history of the apostille and the impact of the 2025 French apostille reform on sworn translation.
History
AFTraduction was founded in September 2022 by Adlane Debassi, a translator and interpreter with more than ten years of professional experience. Debassi studied translation at the University of Algiers before specialising in legal and financial translation in France, where he completed a Master 1 and Master 2 in Trilingual Legal and Financial Translation at Université Sorbonne Nouvelle, following an earlier Master's in Applied Foreign Languages (LEA) in Arabic–English translation. He works in Arabic, English and French in all directions and is listed on the roster of judicial experts of the Dijon Court of Appeal for 2026 in the English and Arabic sections. The agency was initially established as a subsidiary of the AFT group. In January 2025 it became independent from that group, a change the company highlights on its website as a defining moment that allows it to operate as an independent agency while retaining its accumulated expertise. The agency is based in Montreuil, just outside Paris, and describes itself as serving clients throughout France and internationally. From its founding, AFTraduction has positioned itself in the market for sworn and certified translation, a segment in which translators must be officially sworn before French courts of appeal. The agency states that it covers 75 languages in sworn translation, amounting to 127 certified language pairs, and that its interpreting arm covers more than 200 languages and dialects, including oral languages that have no written form. It relies on a network of around 700 native, certified expert translators and interpreters. Over its short history the agency has broadened its offer beyond document translation. It now provides legal, financial, medical and technical translation; judicial interpreting for hearings, police custody and expert examinations; social interpreting for prefectures, hospitals and asylum procedures; and professional subtitling for corporate, advertising, commercial, social-media, e-learning and entertainment video. It has also adopted a pragmatic stance on technology, presenting artificial intelligence as an option for urgent, high-volume subtitling projects while maintaining human expertise at the core of its certified work. AFTraduction states that it applies translation procedures in strict compliance with the ISO 17100 standard, while explicitly noting that this is not a certification issued by an independent body. It also emphasises project management, confidentiality commitments and sector-specific knowledge in areas such as pharmaceuticals, law, finance, engineering and e-commerce. The agency publishes editorial content on translation-related subjects, including an article on the history of the apostille and the French apostille reform that took effect on 1 May 2025, aimed at clients who need French documents recognised abroad.
