Overview
Afizzionados was a Mexican sports subscription television channel belonging to the telecommunications company izzi, operated by Televisa Internacional and with its content produced by TUDN. It was launched in July 2018 by Grupo Televisa as a strategic move to promote its izzi subsidiary, positioning the channel exclusively around sports. Its flagship attraction was the exclusive broadcast of Tigres home matches starting from the Apertura 2018 tournament of Liga BBVA (Liga MX). For the Guard1anes 2020 tournament, the channel acquired the rights to broadcast the home games of Atlas and Chivas (Guadalajara), holding most of those clubs' matches exclusively on this signal. Beyond Liga MX, Afizzionados also carried Copa MX matches, including the quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final of the group in which it competed, and in partnership with ViX it aired Tigres Femenil matches. On 24 September 2020, the channel announced it would broadcast NFL games, airing one match exclusively on Sundays at 12:00, following TV Azteca's decision not to renew its NFL contract for Ritual NFL. The channel was available in more than 60 cities in Mexico where izzi has coverage, through izzitv XP and the Izzi Go mobile app. From June 2019 it was also available on Blim, alongside its sister Televisa channels, and in 2022 on the VIX+ platform. It was also carried on Axtel TV until that service was sold to Televisa and Megacable, and from July 2020 it was offered through the Sky satellite system, briefly discontinued and then restored in the second half of 2022. As a measure to prevent illegal retransmissions, when tuning into the channel, the customer number was displayed on screen in a message that changed position over time, intended to locate those responsible for redistributing the Afizzionados signal so they could be sanctioned. Afizzionados ceased transmissions on 30 April 2024, after the company ordered a restructuring process, compounded by low profitability, reduced programming and the subsequent migration of its sports content to ViX.
History
Afizzionados was launched in July 2018 by Grupo Televisa with the intention of focusing it exclusively on sports, as a strategic part of promoting its subsidiary izzi. As the channel's main attraction, starting from the Apertura 2018 tournament of Liga BBVA, the home matches of Tigres would be shown exclusively. For the Guard1anes 2020 tournament, the channel obtained the broadcast rights for the home games of the clubs Atlas and Chivas, holding the majority of those clubs' matches exclusively on this signal. On 24 September 2020, it was announced that the channel would broadcast NFL games, airing one match exclusively on Sundays at 12:00. The announcement came weeks after TV Azteca did not renew its contract with the NFL to broadcast Ritual NFL (where the Sunday noon games were shown); days later it was announced that this concept moved to the Nu9ve channel under the name "Blitz TUDN". Currently, and as a measure to prevent illegal retransmissions, when tuning into this channel, the Customer Number is displayed on screen, a message that changes position over the minutes. Its purpose is to locate the people responsible for redistributing the Afizzionados broadcast and to have them sanctioned. Afizzionados ceased its transmissions on 30 April 2024, after the company ordered a restructuring process, compounded by low profitability, reduced programming and the subsequent migration of its sports content to ViX. Events broadcast: Afizzionados offered the home matches of Tigres, Atlas and Guadalajara exclusively, and some other attractive away matches (matches shared with TUDN). It also carried Copa MX matches, from the group in which it was competing, and regardless of its participation, it broadcast the quarter-finals, semi-finals and the grand final. On the other hand, together with VIX, it also carried Tigres Femenil matches. From the 2020 season it broadcast exclusive NFL games. Availability: Afizzionados was available in more than 60 cities in Mexico, where Izzi has coverage, through izzitv XP and the Izzi Go mobile app. From June 2019 it was also available on Blim, like all its sister Televisa channels, and in 2022 on the VIX+ platform. The channel was also available on Axtel TV until the sale of that service to Televisa and Megacable. From July 2020, the channel was also offered through the Sky satellite system, and although it was temporarily discontinued, by the second half of 2022 it was offered again on this service.
