Overview

AEON TOWN Yoshikawa-Minami (イオンタウン吉川美南) is a shopping center operated under the AEON TOWN banner of the AEON Group, located at 3-25-1 Minami, Yoshikawa City, Saitama Prefecture, Japan. It sits within a planned district redeveloped from the former Musashino rail yard (武蔵野操車場) site, and the surrounding area has been organized through a land readjustment project tied to that redevelopment. The center was developed in three phases. The first phase, a single-story steel-frame building now called "ANNEX," opened in 2013. The second phase, the two-story "West Block" (西街区), opened in 2017 and is anchored by the general merchandise store AEON Yoshikawa-Minami. The third phase, the three-story "East Block" (東街区), opened in 2021 and includes dining and hot-spring facilities centered on Aquaignis. The three blocks received their formal names when the third phase opened. Across its floors the center mixes a GMS grocery and lifestyle anchor with specialty tenants: services such as a post office and banking on the lower levels, apparel, variety goods and restaurants above, and a food-and-relaxation cluster in the East Block. Over time the tenant mix has shifted — the fashion specialty store FT moved from ANNEX to the West Block and later closed, prompting the AEON store to convert from a supermarket format to a full GMS, and the second floor was later reworked toward children's and home goods. The center is closely tied to Yoshikawa City. The city and AEON concluded a comprehensive partnership agreement covering regional revitalization and citizen services, including use of the local "Gotouchi WAON" and arrangements for public-facility users and disaster-time vehicle evacuation to use the center's parking. Local promotion events such as the "Yoshikawa Fair" showcase the city's products and attractions. As of the official site, the center remains active, publishing store openings and closures, seasonal events, and shop news, with contact details at 3-25-1 Minami, Yoshikawa, Saitama and telephone 048-984-1020.

History

AEON TOWN Yoshikawa-Minami is a shopping center in Yoshikawa City, Saitama Prefecture, developed on land that forms part of the redevelopment of the former Musashino rail yard. The surrounding district has been organized through a land readjustment project associated with that former rail facility. The center was built in three phases. The first phase, a single-story steel-frame building, opened in 2013. At opening, its core tenant was FT Yoshikawa-Minami, described as the first store of the large fashion-and-variety specialty format "FT" operated by AEON Retail; the block also housed a cleaning shop, hair and beauty salons, and a coffee shop. This first-phase block was later formally named "ANNEX." Over time FT relocated to the West Block, and the ANNEX space was subsequently occupied by tenants including Sports Authority and later Sanki and Daiso. The second phase was announced by AEON TOWN in August 2016, initially planned to open in summer 2017 under the provisional name "AEON TOWN Yoshikawa-Minami 17 Block." The opening was later pushed to autumn 2017, and the opening date was published on August 21, 2017. This two-story steel-frame "West Block" (西街区) is anchored by the general merchandise store AEON Yoshikawa-Minami. Specialty tenants are arranged with service businesses such as a post office on the first floor and apparel, variety goods and restaurants on the second. FT moved to the second floor of the West Block around the time of the opening but closed on August 23, 2020. As a result, the AEON Yoshikawa-Minami store, which had originally operated only on the first floor as a supermarket (SSM), added directly operated selling space on the second floor and converted to a GMS format, selling food, cosmetics and medicines on the first floor and apparel and household goods on the second. On April 30, 2021, the second floor was renovated and reorganized into "Kids Republic" (children's goods) and "Home Corde" (household goods), substantially reducing the men's and women's apparel offering. The third phase was revealed in autumn 2020 as a further expansion, with about 50 stores planned. On May 19, 2021, AEON TOWN announced the tenants and opening date for the third-phase expansion. This three-story steel-frame "East Block" (東街区) opened in 2021 and features restaurants and hot-spring facilities centered on Aquaignis. With the opening of the third phase, the first-phase block was formally named "ANNEX," the second-phase block "West Block," and the third-phase block "East Block." The center is closely connected to Yoshikawa City. The city concluded a comprehensive partnership agreement with AEON Co., Ltd. aimed at promoting regional revitalization and improving citizen services. The agreement covers cooperation across various fields, including regional promotion through the use of the local "Gotouchi WAON," and arrangements for users of public facilities planned for the east exit of Yoshikawa-Minami Station to use the center's parking, as well as acceptance of private vehicles for evacuation during disasters such as heavy rain. The center also hosts events such as the "Yoshikawa Fair," with booths offering the city's specialty food, agricultural and horticultural products, and displays including a "catfish aquarium corner" to promote the city's attractions. As of the official website, the center remains active, publishing notices of store openings and closures, seasonal events, and shop news, with contact details at 3-25-1 Minami, Yoshikawa, Saitama and telephone 048-984-1020.
