History
AEON TOWN Sanuma opened on October 25, 2007, as a soft opening, followed by a grand opening on October 27, 2007, under the name Rock City Sanuma (ロックシティ佐沼). It was developed and operated by Rock Development Co., Ltd. At the time of opening, the center housed 47 tenants, including an AEON Super Center and Yamada Denki as leading tenants, along with 11 food and beverage tenants, 13 fashion tenants, and 10 general merchandise tenants. Some tenants, such as the AEON Super Center and Plaza Capcom, operated longer hours than typical tenants. On August 31, 2011, AEON Co., Ltd. acquired all shares of Rock Development Co., Ltd., making it a wholly owned subsidiary, and on September 1, 2011, the company was renamed AEON TOWN Co., Ltd. As part of this change, facilities were progressively renamed from Rock Town to AEON TOWN, and this location was renamed from Rock City Sanuma to AEON TOWN Sanuma. In 2020, operational changes occurred: on March 1, the liquor section of the AEON Super Center Sanuma store was transferred from AEON Retail to AEON Tohoku following the establishment of AEON Tohoku Co., Ltd. On April 1, free plastic bag distribution ended at AEON directly operated sales floors nationwide, including this store. On March 16, 2022, the Fukushima offshore earthquake caused damage to the center, including collapsed ceilings and walls. On March 1, 2025, following a merger, the entire sales floor operation of the AEON Super Center Sanuma store was transferred from AEON Super Center to AEON Tohoku Co., Ltd. The center continues to operate as a regional shopping destination in Tome City, Miyagi Prefecture, with the AEON Super Center Sanuma store as its core, alongside approximately 37 specialty stores including Yamada Denki and Daiso.
