Overview

The Adriatic Aerospace Association (A3; Croatian: Jadranska aero-svemirska asocijacija) is a Croatian non-governmental, non-profit and independent association founded on 18 December 2017 with the support of the Ruđer Bošković Institute. It was established to encourage research and development in the aerospace sector, to act as a point of contact and intermediary in projects, to provide education and consulting, and to foster regional and international cooperation. A3 describes itself as an association of research institutions and high-technology companies. Its founding members are natural and legal persons from the scientific and technological sector, and its activities involve employees of companies and institutions in science and education who are willing to take part in the aerospace programme of the Republic of Croatia. The association's stated ambition is to help place Croatia on the list of countries participating in one of humanity's largest undertakings, and it works toward that vision through involvement in the design and execution of projects in Croatia and at the international level. Participation is possible through membership as well as through partnership as a collaborator on individual projects. A3's core areas of activity are research and development of aerospace technologies, products and services; brokerage and matchmaking between economic actors on the domestic and international market; business and technology consulting and education; and regional cooperation, which the association summarises with the motto that cooperation, not competition, is the essence of success. The association's first project was the launch of the first Croatian satellite into space, a one-litre cube-shaped CubeSat containing all its components, named Perun 1. Members of the association also initiated a process aimed at achieving Croatia's membership in the European Space Agency. As a non-profit association rather than a commercial manufacturer, A3 occupies a supporting and coordinating role in the Croatian aerospace ecosystem, connecting research institutions, high-technology companies and international partners. Its leadership has included the prominent Croatian scientist Prof. Dr. Slobodan Danko Bosanac, president of the association, whose death was announced on the association's website.

History

The Adriatic Aerospace Association (A3) was founded on 18 December 2017 as a Croatian non-governmental, non-profit and independent association, established with the support of the Ruđer Bošković Institute. Its founding members were natural and legal persons from the scientific and technological sector, brought together with the intention of promoting research and development in the aerospace sector, acting as a point of contact in projects, providing education and consulting, and encouraging regional and international cooperation. From its beginnings, A3 framed its mission around the goal of including Croatia in the community of countries active in space. The association's activities were designed to engage employees of companies and institutions in science and education who were willing to participate in the aerospace programme of the Republic of Croatia, thereby helping to place Croatia on the list of countries taking part in one of humanity's largest undertakings. Participation was organised both through membership and through partnership as a collaborator on individual projects. The association's first project was the launch of the first Croatian satellite into space. This was a CubeSat in the shape of a one-litre cube containing all its components, and it was named Perun 1. In parallel, members of the association initiated a process aimed at achieving membership in the European Space Agency, reflecting A3's broader ambition of integrating Croatian aerospace research and industry into European structures. A3 has continued to operate as a cooperation platform, promoting research and development of aerospace technologies, products and services; brokering connections between economic actors on the domestic and international market; providing business and technology consulting and education; and pursuing regional cooperation under the principle that cooperation, not competition, is the essence of success. The association has also been led by the prominent Croatian scientist Prof. Dr. Slobodan Danko Bosanac, whose death as president of the association was announced on its website.
